“Now Anna, will you please roll down your overalls to your lap, so I can listen to your heart and lungs?” The healer’s caring voice made her calm. Her chest and back felt cool as the top of her overalls fell onto her lap. The healer placed a cool thing on her chest, then on her back. “Breathe in. Breathe out.” She did a couple of other things that Anna didn’t understand. But she worked with the healer and did everything she asked. “Very good,” the healer said. “Have you had anything to eat this morning?” Anna shook her head. “Have you been to the toilet today?” Anna nodded. “Good,” the healer said with a smile. “How are you feeling Anna? Is there anything hurting or making you uncomfortable? Your tummy? Your head?” “My paws hurt,” she said, raising her legs. “Poor thing,” the healer said, “I know it’s hot out there. Don’t worry, Anna. We’ll make them feel better.”
