This is the start of my #throwbackthursdayart journey.
These two are my first OCs I ever made. Clyde on the left, and Crimson on the right. I was originally going to make some sort of short comic but didn’t get far. 😖

A retro/vaporwave inspired image advertising a throwback thursday art share.
It's stormy as all get out here, so it seems a good time to settle in and look at some art!
Post your favorite older images, art you haven't posted in a while, progress comparisons, or even retro/history inspired work
Bonus: Tell me about a thing you loved as a kid

An illustration rendered in grayscale and line art of Amygdala, an eldritch entity from Bloodborne (a videogame by FromSoftware). Amygdala has six hands on six arms, each with six fingers, though only four hands are visible in this image. It has a basket-like head filled with many eyes which ends in a spread of tentacles that drape down. Around Amygdala is a frame resembling the Victorian-styled city of Yharnam. Threaded through the frame is a fraying parchment scroll which reads "Oh Amygdala, have mercy on the poor bastard”

Got Eldritch Victorian horror on the mind.
Man, I made an absolute crazy-person overlay on top of the map for this game comparing it to a brain and N posted it on Reddit and it turned into a minor Thing there and it made me feel briefly Very Smart.
From Object (Hey Dr. Zimbardo!), a series dealing with the topics of dehumanization and objectification. A diptych featuring a nude young man in both panels. He is bruised and cut, the wounds in the process of healing - he had, prior to the shoot, been paid to get filmed being beaten up by a female boxer. In the first panel he holds one hand over his chest. The next is a closer bust crop, and he looks off to the side of the frame, the bruise under his eye clearly visible.
From Heroin, a series of images simulating heroin abuse. This image shows a skinny man, one arm splayed out, the inside of the elbow darkened and bruised. His face cannot be seen - his head falls out of the view of the camera. His prominent bones are visible in the falling of light across his body. His nipple is pierced.
From Echo, a series of nudes printed on copper plates using a dark room and light sensitive coating. The image depicts a man sitting cross legged, his hands behind his head, looking off to the left of the frame. The image is heavily distorted by the process of its production.
From Rich People, a satirical set of images depicting people in formalwear wielding golf clubs and having a water gun fight but with wine. This image depicts a man in front of a spread of greenery, his hand raised to pull open his navy jacket and plum-colored undershirt to reveal his pierced nipple. His eyes are closed as he receives a spray of wine across his face and a second one showering down over his chest and body. His expression, however, is calm or even exultant.

From "This Strange Relationship" A female figure faces forward. One side of her face, including the eyeball, are being squished and pulled upward by a gloved hand with long, pointed fingers while the lens of a mask examines from the other side. The woman's expression is wide-eyed but surprisingly neutral, considering her circumstances.
From "This Strange Relationship" A nude woman seen from a high angle, leaned back, vanishing into charcoal darkness. Her stomach has been split open and two figures in plague doctors costumes hold it open for display. The internal organs spill out from the bloodless, open gash. The woman is looking up and away, though it is hard to tell if she is even aware of her circumstances.
From "This Strange Relationship" A nude woman is seen from the waist up. Her arm is held up towards the very, with the forearm split open to reveal the tissue beneath. A figure in a plague doctor outfit has one arm wrapped around the woman. The figure's other hand is holding the bow of a violin and is pulling it over the visible tendons of the split forearm. The woman is looking up and away, face pulled in a tight grimace as if she is trying to muscle through the agony.

That time I drew myself naked like 20 times and then hung it in the main hall of my college campus.
A visual representation of my #InvisibleDisability. I'm neurodivergent with Fibromyalgia (and now Long Covid as well).
A woman in a white shirt with peachy skin and blonde hair staring down a large pelican statue, taller than she is, with white feathers and a peachy colored bill. Behind them is a store selling bathing suits.
A display in a storefront selling mirrors and small jewelry boxes with shells glued to them, covering their surfaces. In the center, heart shaped mirror in the reflection of a man, his face in profile and framed by the upper "arm" of the heart. More mirrors reflect other customers and products as well as the centrally pictured man's arm and shirt.
The lion enclosure at Busch Gardens, Tampa. The silhouettes of standing guests can be seen on the left, backlit by the light shining through the glass of the enclosure. On the right, two teenagers, one dressed in rain gear, sit on a fake rock. Their features are dampened by rain. The low light creates a heavy chiaroscuro on their figures, and their faces in profile mirror that of the head of the lion behind the muddied glass. A woman in front of them is kneeling to take a photograph.
A picture taken from the St. Petersburg Pier before it was renovated. A man is fishing from a dock while a woman sails past in a small single passenger boat. Her head is turned back towards the pier, perhaps even to the man fishing.

From a 59 image series called Attraction, from 2013. I was documenting the weirdness of tourism culture in Florida - a fabrication that no one really asked for nor specifically desires, yet expects to be there and would get upset if it weren't

2022. A tall, nude, lithe male figure rendered in shades of purple and blue. He holds a cup in front of him that overflows with a bubbling, pale liquid. He has long hair that falls below his shoulder blades.
2017. A face rising from heavy pure blackness. The skin is pale, with dark, limp, short, hair drawn across it. There are dark red circles marked with scars under the eyes, one of which is missing from the socket. The mouth is wet and stained red by blood and saliva.
2018. A futuristic pilot wearing an assortment of tech gear and a tight body suit. He is pulling a smooth mask, similar in shape to half an egg shell, away from his face. The mask is connected to a multitude of wires. Dripping between his mouth and the mask is a black syrupy goop, a nanite/nanomachine substrate that neurologically connects him to the machine he is piloting. You can see behind him, through a window, the light dotting of stars.
2021. A pencil sketch of a young man with slightly parted lips from which rises very stylized smoke, billowing and branching up and out to the top of the image, almost plant-like. His eye is centrally focused, situated between two pillars of smoke, staring straight out at the viewer. His shirt is simply rendered in a basic shaded hatch pattern. He has chin length hair, pulled back partially behind his head.

A collection of sketches from over the years. I don't really repost sketches like these, so it becomes less and less likely for people to see them on socmed past the point of their creation and they just get dusty on my gallery sites.

A coffee cup on a white table, shattered into pieces, coffee splattered across the image at a diagonal. At the end of the like of destruction is a small white, five pointed star, visually emerging from the whiteness of the table as lines of shadow. It appears as if the cup was shattered by the star.

2009. From a series where I depicted the stars falling from the sky, but as the five-pointed symbol stars in various sizes and situations. This is my favorite of the set, and probably the only one that can stand on its own. I believe I shot this outside of a McDonald's.

A woman lies sleeping in her bed. Above her hang an extensive assortment of paper cranes, filling the entire image, and four glowing paper lanterns.

From "Dreams, Death, and Desire," 2009
I folded all those myself, with a little help from friends now and then. We would pie at Village Inn and fold paper cranes. It's also me in the bed. In critique I was told it was too busy and I should have cleaned up my room.

A young woman, floating adrift underwater, her face largely expressionless, perhaps contemplative or morose. The image is heavily tinted in cyan teal. The woman wears denim shorts and a loose wide necked sweater that hovers around her body in the water. Her arms are held out in front of her and her knees are pulled upwards in an unconsidered but not quite fetal position. She seems to be lit by a cyan glow from an unknown source.

I did this when my Long Covid was really bad. Sort of a self portrait that doesn't look anything like me.

King of Nails. A man has a bat slung over one arm. The bat is studded with golden nails and has a pair of fuzzy dice hanging from the base. The man is wearing a tattered hoodie, vest, and pants, the latter two being adorned with a variety of patches and studs. He also wears a t-shirt, boots, multiple belts, gloves, goggles and makeshift pauldrons or shoulder pads. The shoulder pad on his left shoulder is pierced through with many golden nails, and more are fabricated into a crown he wears around his head over the hood of his jacket. The bottom of his face is covered in a skull patterned face mask and he holds a single golden nail in his left hand, which hangs by his side. Since you read this far here is some trivia: The patches and designs on his outfit are based in large part on references to the song King of Nails by Sparklehorse, though a couple of them are my own references.
#ThrowbackThursdayArt time! I used to do this on Twix and the hash tag never caught on but I'm certainly dumb enough not to give up.
King of Nails, a favorite of mine from Drawtober 2021. I feel I could just do a few small liquefy edits on him and get something really solid.
