1: Kingler makes a massive swipe with its claw, sending a claw-shaped shockwave toward Sapphire and Relicanth in the foreground. Sapphire and Relicanth flinch backward in surprise, narrowly dodging the shockwave. 2: The shockwave hits a rock formation in the background, shattering it. Unperturbed, Sapphire glares and points at the offscreen Kingler, silently directing her Relicanth to swim forward with intense force and speed. 3: A closeup of Relicanth's tail skimming the ocean floor, sweeping up a clump of mud. 4: A closeup of several Krabbys rising up from the ocean floor where they'd been hiding, mud dripping down off of them. Behind them, more Krabbys’ eyes are visible in shadowy crevasses of the coral tower.

This #comic is based on the manga series Pokémon Adventures, also known by its Japanese name Pokémon Special, so the trainer here is Sapphire (in case you were wondering why “May” is so angry and has fangs XD )

Preliminary pencil sketches for a comic page. Preliminary pencil sketches for another comic page, not in sequence with the previous one. 1: Sapphire bursts up above the surface of the ocean, gasping for breath, startling a fisherman (Wilton) on his boat. She's dramatically backlit by the sun. 2: Sapphire squints and turns away from the bright sun, shielding her eyes. 3: Sapphire dives back under the water. 4: Sapphire, underwater, is startled to see Relicanth flailing in distress and pain as Krabbys surround it and pelt it with Bubble Beam. 5: Sapphire gets between Relicanth and the Krabbys, angrily kicking her leg and knocking several Krabby back. 6: Closeup on Kingler pulling its claw back for a punch. 7: Closeup on Relicanth noticing this and gasping. 8: Kingler swings its claw toward the viewer dramatically, launching itself forward for an attack.

A heavily textured watercolor painting in a cartoony art style. The scene is set underwater with greenish tints over the background, yellow-green towards the top (towards the light) and blue-green towards the bottom. In the background spirally tower of coral shoots up from the sea floor, covered in seaweed, algae, and other undersea plants. There are little caverns within the coral, out of which Pokémon are peeking, mostly Krabby (a small orange-and-yellow crab-like Pokémon) and a few Spheal (a round ball-like blue-and-yellow Pokémon with seal-like fins, mouth and ears). At the top of the coral tower, backlit by rays of sunlight reflected through the surface of the water, stands a Kingler, a large orange-and-yellow crab-like Pokémon, standing defensively with one large claw raised in the air. It's glaring towards the foreground of the image where Sapphire/May is diving down with a Relicanth in a trail of bubbles, gripping a Pokéball and grinning mischievously up at the Kingler. Relicanth is a large fishlike Pokémon, dark brown with light brown camouflage markings and an armored face, ending in a horn at the top, which Sapphire/May is holding onto.

A few Magikarp are swimming nearby. 3: Sapphire watches in awe as the Magikarp swim up to join a giant Gyarados. 4: Sapphire and Relicanth dive to the sandy ocean floor, Sapphire stretching her hands toward something buried in the sand. A Tentacool drfits past and a Shellder is submerged in the sand nearby. 5: The Shellder sleeps peacefully while Sapphire scoops a Water Stone out of the sand, admiring it while Relicanth floats nearby. 6: Sapphire turns and reaches down for another Water Stone in the sand, but pauses, seeing that it's cast in shadow. 7: Sapphire looks up in wonder. What she sees is not visible, but she's completely in awe, the Water Stone forgotten.
