Hiroto Goto presented his exciting work on drone‑based moose population surveys at #tws2025. Can’t wait to see his research develop further! 🌲🦌 #WildlifeScience #DroneTech
I presented my latest work on drone‑based surveys to estimate moose populations. Using simulations, we were able to:
- Compared various drone platforms
- Found that fixed‑wing drones equipped with a gimbal‑mounted camera provide a viable, safe alternative to conventional methods.

A highly cropped photograph of a distant wolf walking through chest-high pale yellow grass. The wolf is dark gray overall, with a pale gray muzzle. It is mostly in profile, facing to the left, with its head tilted toward the camera. In the background is a rocky hill interspersed with tufts of browning grass.
Recently, I attended The Wildlife Society conference in Edmonton, Canada, and then ventured to Jasper National Park.
One of the best highlights of that trip was seeing WOLVES in the wild for the first time!
Sure, they were ~0.5 miles (~800 m) away, but still so cool.

It's the last day at #TWS2025 but we've got a pretty good finale lined up.
✔️more efficient grizzly bear monitoring
✔️what's influencing moose population size and trends
✔️where are the moose and where are they going?
Today I presented my MSc research at the "Cumulative Effects in Northern Ecosystems" symposium, and during the panel shared my thoughts on collaboration between academia and industry. So thankful to have been invited to participate and get to know some really cool people!

A scientific poster titled cause-specific mortality of white tailed deer in west-central alberta. it is colourful and contains photos of deer mortality sites and bone marrow
That was a big day of talks, but don't leave yet – we have a fun poster in the Exhibit Hall and would love to chat about what we're learning about deer cause of death in caribou ranges! #TWS2025

We studied 117 harvest blocks to understand what factors influence bear, wolf, and other carnivore use of these landscape features. Caribou Program lead Dr. @lfinnegal.bsky.social presented results. #TWS2025
Camera traps have a lot of advantages in ecology research, but it's time-consuming to classify images. Dr. Rebecca Viejou presented on how we can use AI to greatly improve efficiency without compromising accuracy. #TWS2025
