A cardboard ichthyosaur fossil, made at the local fossil festival in 2022, getting some TLC ready for a new display.
I’ve been fixing up an old friend 😁 Children visiting the Fossil Festival made this Ichthyosaur skeleton a few years ago, and I’ve been revamping it ready for display at The West Bay Discovery Centre. Yesterday I was painting it in my garden, as you do. 😎😆

Need a new line in Excel? Finish your first line and then press Alt and Enter. This is very useful if you add comments into spreadsheets.
Teachers often use Excel for logging text. But Excel is a clever calculator that wasn't invented for text.
Helpfully, Alt and Enter means you can add line breaks into cells.
Very useful.

A selection of photos of some of the artwork created over this terms workshops, including giant insects, cardboard ships, a caterpillar, cardboard sunflowers, historical figures, an electric guitar, an octopus, a talking frog, and a giant birthday cake.
Thanks again to all of the schools, teachers, artists, and friends here online for the help and encouragement this term. Creative work like mine doesn't exist without the oxygen of support, so cheers. 🥂
I'm raising a glass to you all. x 😁

primary science cpd for teachers
cpd for teachers - using ai in primary schools
The Easter break is when a lot of school leaders think about what CPD they want in place before the end of the year. If primary science or EdTech is on that list, I have capacity for summer term. Face to Face or online courses available.

A cardboard collage created by the Year 5/6 pupils from Othery Primary School based on their local church.
The Year 5/6 class from Othery Primary School made this fantastic piece of work yesterday based on their local church, St. Michael's. They made it in separate sections allowing the whole class to take part. 🙂

A display made by the KS1 children from Ilchester Community Primary School, they wanted a way of highlighting their school values (Belief, Bravery, Curiosity, Kindness, Aspiration, and Equity) so we made a fortress, and a tribe guarding the 'rules'
The cardboard tribe
I love this little 'tribe' made by the KS1 kids from Ilchester Community Primary School. I'm looking forward to seeing this on display when I'm next with you. 😁👍

Microsoft paperclip with speech bubble “It looks like you’re making a better world for dyslexic learners?”
Using Microsoft Word, hold the Windows key and press H to start speech-to-text Start talking and watch your words appear. You can speak faster than you can type, so this is really useful for longer texts. You soon get used to speaking the punctuation you need (e.g. say period (for a full stop) and new line for new paragraphs. If mistakes happen, carry on. Correct them at the end.
Get Word to read back your work Click the start of your text. Then press Ctrl, Alt and Space Word now reads your writing aloud.
Learners can change the speed 1. Click the settings button at the top right of your Microsoft Word screen. 2. Use the slider to speed or slow the playback. To pause read aloud, simply press pause.
If dyslexia is the question, tech is part of the answer.
Best thing is, it's already built into Microsoft Word.

Most of us in education never went on Microsoft Word training. It has useful tools and hacks that we don't know about.
In coming days, I'll highlight some of them.

Spent all weekend building lesson resources from scratch? You don't have to.
Notebook LM (free, from Google) turns your lesson plans, curriculum docs, and knowledge organisers into slides, quizzes, flashcards, and audio overviews. All in about 30 minutes.

Artwork created by the KS2 pupils from Phoenix Arch School inspired by the nearby Wembley Stadium.
The KS2 kids from Phoenix Arch School created this fabulous display of the nearby Wembley Stadium this week. They worked in teams to make and decorate this artwork inspired by their nearest famous landmark. 😁⚽⚽⚽

Four sea creatures made this week by the students from Phoenix Arch Special School. Pictured are a starfish, a turtle, a seahorse, and an octopus, all made from cardboard and recycled materials.
I've spent my week in London working with the kids from Phoenix Arch school, helping them to create large-scale sculptures of sea creatures. All of the kids here have additional needs, they've helped one another, worked hard, and enjoyed themselves. 🙂
