I like to see PWA being given the stage at forums (lots of experts by experience at the #UKSF this year, but the audience is selective obviously).
What an amazing but well deserved shout out for the outgoing #uksf president "the humble yet freaking awesome" @lisakidd22.bsky.social

That’s my little round up from today. More tomorrow at #UKSF
#DecisionMaking at #UKSF: ask the person how we can mitigate risks, and if presenting options then don’t load them - make them equal and neutral, as “we could do <option 1> or we could do <option 2>” - things that could be not things that will be - so we’re clear the decision is yet to be made.
P People - who to involve for different decisions (it’s not always going to be the same people) and consider #SLT for communication support
S Support required - it’s our obligation to offer needed support, not an optional extra.
#UKSF
@markjayes.bsky.social spoke about his TIPS for supporting people with communication difficulties at #UKSF:
T Timing the assessment- not ages before needed, best time for the person and take time to prep them
I information - what’s necessary/unnecessary and what format to maximise understanding
A reminder to embed #DecisionMaking into every day for people with #aphasia and #cognition or communication difficulties - once we’re familiar with how decision making works for that person it will be so much easier when the decision is big b/c we’ve embedded small ones into every day #UKSF
Another great expert by experience with #aphasia, Lucy Allard, spoke about being empowered and disempowered during her stroke journey by healthcare professionals who took time and space to talk to her in a meaningful way vs those who fired questions but didn’t check her comprehension #UKSF
