Juliana Delgado mentioned that stakeholders don’t like having too many choices. I feel like that whenever I eat at a #vegan restaurant because I’m not used to so many options. πŸ˜‚ #usiale2019

I was really excited when Juliana Delgado showed a photo of Andes vegetation that looks like the moorland in Kenya! #usiale2019

and today @nsvandoorn gave a great talk on tree mortality in an urban landscape. Urban trees have enormous potential to benefit human lives; nice to see work applying cutting-edge statistical models (hierarchical Bayes) to explore why tree planting succeeds or fails #usiale2019

Come see @BoiseStateEEB student @C_barberab present on her research modeling tree demography at landscape scales to promote reforestation in Panama tomorrow at #usiale2019! she'll be at 3:30 in the Restoration Ecology session

Session moderators of the world: please keep to official start times & allow questions after each speaker. Saving questions for the end of the whole session doesn’t help when people are running between sessions. #usiale2019

one more: @gigi_rose presented ongoing work to detect restoration in Inner Mongolia. Innovative use of LandTrendr algorithm to measure subtle changes in plant species composition using Landsat data. I can't wait to see the publications that result from this one! #usiale2019

NASA's ecosystem forecasting program is also funding some awesome work from polar bear movement on sea ice to monitoring illegal fishing with night light data. @DrKeithGaddis presented on an amazing portfolio of these NASA projects #usiale2019

from NASA @jawzsh gave a mind-blowing talk on the ECOSTRESS mission, complete with amazing videos of space stuff. Unlike other RS platforms, ECOSTRESS collects data at different times during the day giving a key advantage for looking at time-varying evapotranspiration #usiale2019

ecosystem models currently use remote sensing in an indirect way that requires translating surface reflectance into products like GPP @ashiklom711 showed how we can use RS more directly by training ED2 model to predict surface reflectance #usiale2019

change in the arctic due to plant-climate feedbacks is important for global temperatures @doctorjackpine made a very convincing case that UAV data can resolve uncertainty in plant functional traits leading to better models for things like shrub expansion and albedo #usiale2019

Can we predict ecosystem function from LiDAR-derived structural diversity? @elizabethalarue gave a terrific talk with @NEON_sci data showing that metrics of structure from aerial data have high predictive power--particularly gap fraction and height. #usiale2019

First: @Jen_Costanza presented on continental-scale changes in forest communities using FIA data. 8% of plots shifted in species composition during the recent study period, with climate implicated as cause. Ambitious plans to forecast for next several decades! #usiale2019
