from NASA @jawzsh gave a mind-blowing talk on the ECOSTRESS mission, complete with amazing videos of space stuff. Unlike other RS platforms, ECOSTRESS collects data at different times during the day giving a key advantage for looking at time-varying evapotranspiration #usiale2019

ecosystem models currently use remote sensing in an indirect way that requires translating surface reflectance into products like GPP @ashiklom711 showed how we can use RS more directly by training ED2 model to predict surface reflectance #usiale2019

change in the arctic due to plant-climate feedbacks is important for global temperatures @doctorjackpine made a very convincing case that UAV data can resolve uncertainty in plant functional traits leading to better models for things like shrub expansion and albedo #usiale2019

Can we predict ecosystem function from LiDAR-derived structural diversity? @elizabethalarue gave a terrific talk with @NEON_sci data showing that metrics of structure from aerial data have high predictive power--particularly gap fraction and height. #usiale2019

First: @Jen_Costanza presented on continental-scale changes in forest communities using FIA data. 8% of plots shifted in species composition during the recent study period, with climate implicated as cause. Ambitious plans to forecast for next several decades! #usiale2019
