Butterflies on white umbellifers. On top there is 1 comma and 3 silver-washed fritillaries (one male, one normal female and one female of the valesina morph), in the middle one SWF (normal female) and on the bottom right hidden by plants one male, one normal female and 2 valesina females. Also one wingtip of another male SWF in the corner.
Female silver-washed fritillary of the dark colour morph "valesina" where the orange ground colour is missing. Often there is also a greenish sheen. This colour morph only exists in females.
2 silver-washed fritillary with male top left and female of the normal colour morph bottom right. Males can be recognised by the presence of four dark "scent stripes" on the frontwing, females are a bit duller with larger spots but lacking the stripes.
The dark #valesina colour morph of female silver-washed fritillary is very rare in Belgium but in the Italian #AlpiMarittime this summer it was very common!
Look at the 1st pic with 3 out of 6 ♀ valesina! The 2nd pic is a valesina in detail and 3rd a normal couple. See alt text for more info.
