🫛 Looks like 🐭 have discovered my direct sown Peas outside in the garden. I’ve had patchy germination, perhaps with it being too cold, so I’d resown recently. Scuffs, mess & holes suggest activity.
I’ve started off several module trays instead.

Removed the back of the temperature sensor with a thin edged precision screwdriver, revealing the inner circuit board.
Popped the old CR2477 battery out of the circuit board that was housing it. I have one remaining replacement battery still in its pack.
Battery replaced, temperature sensor all sealed up again, one old battery for the recycling tub.
Checking the temperature sensor is operation. There’s a direct line from when it went offline at about 7am to 5pm when it comes back online.
🪫 I have remote temperature sensors 🌡️ dotted around my growing spaces, but a non-reading from one suggested it was battery replacement time.
Discovered that my tab of CR2477 batteries was down to just one remaining 😱
Popped cap off, resolved.

🥬 Some of the remaining over-wintered Pak-Choi plants are finally starting to rise up to flower. The timing’s not unexpected now.

☀️ Having to get up earlier these days to do the daily tray 🚶♂️ of all the 🌶️ 🫑 🍆 🍅 plantlings and seedlings out into the Greenhouse to enjoy some natural sunlight.
I leave them outside as long as possible, until the temperature drops 🌡️

A pair of 5x3 module trays sat in a heated propagator with a temperature probe stuck into the compost in one cell. Both trays have a white plant label stuck into the cell, denoting position (1,1). Almost all of the cells have little seedlings showing off their cotyledons, with another couple that are poking their heads out. Two cells in the right-hand tray don’t appear to have any activity at this stage.
🍅 What a difference a week makes. Most cells have fired their Tomato seeds into life, or are just starting to poke their heads out. Only two no-shows so far that I can detect.
Plenty of spares as I tended to sow two seeds per cell ‘just in case’.

A grid of about 9 healthy looking Celeriac plants growing in a raised bed in about July, back in 2021. They are interplanted with Spring Onions between the rows.
Dowding opens his “How to Grow Celeriac” video with quite a daunting statement: “Celeriac is not an easy vegetable to grow.”
Fortunately I have managed it before 😮💨 though this was a few years ago, back in 2021.

A 4x7 cell tray full of burgeoning Chilli plants of various sizes. Mostly green with three that are quite red.
The same 4x7 module tray now has a bunch of gaps where I’ve popped cells out and potted up into numbered pots in further trays to the right. There are more shown potted up than can come from this tray as I took some from another tray with similar crowding starting to occur.
🌶️ Decided that it’s time to start potting up some of my early January sown Chilli plants as they’re starting to crowd and shade each other now.
A few went into taller pots, along with some others from another tray that have been growing fast.

The compost has been sifted by hand to reveal a huge pile of fresh garden potatoes that have been stacked up in a green garden tray, sat on the sifted compost in the wheelbarrow.
🥔 I tend to leave my potatoes in the ground until I need them - any leftovers then sprout in Spring - and that includes buckets that I’ve stored in the garage over Winter.
Just cracked open a couple to score some fresh garden spuds in February ☺️

A much more recently germinating plant is in the bottom-right corner, the same variety, but this time with the same darker colour for its cotyledons.
🌶️ One Chilli plant in particular is already producing truly spectacular leaves 😍
This variety is called “Testarossa Orange”. I got a third late germination which has similar cotyledons. I really only need two of these - one plus a spare.
