Vertical color photo of a window. Hanging in the window is a messy arrangement of items: an antique glass bead necklace, a couple of crosses, a rosary with crucifix, and a clear glass crystal drop from a chandelier. The window is filled green with grass and trees but this is not a clear or focused background; using sheer black fabric behind and in front of the baubles, the natural light and color is saturated and somber; the beads have a deep hue––the rosary has red beads and the antique necklace has clear and pastel glass. Everything else is in silhouette. It's a small difference which separates transparency and translucency. Translucency is what I was working toward with this shot––it's defined as semi-transparent; not clear; allowing light and form to show through, but not detail. I have found that, many times, when transparency is preferred, it's translucence, opaqueness, and murkiness which walk hand in hand with religion in my world. This image works well for me as metaphor and expresses a lot about why I don't participate in religion. Veils. I do, however, appreciate these gifts from friends and family who are what I would define as true xtians.
Once, I was working with the creative prompt of "translucent" and created this. I had forgotten all about it until yesterday when I happened across it after many years. Seems suitable today. More in the ALT text.
