Chapters 2-5 of RETURN OF THE KING book 1. Continuing my #walktomordor after a long rest, traveling with Merry and the Rohirrim to save Gondor. Merry is riding with Dernhelm who I haven’t spoken to yet. Not a big fellow, I bet Eowyn could take him. Shame she’s not here to fight.

Pippin, Gandalf and I have finally reached Minas Tirith on our long #WalktoMordor and we had a nice day exploring the city with our guides Beregond and later his son Bergil, but we have an early appointment with Denethor tomorrow I’m really not looking forward to.

Some of the latest pages from my #WalkToMordor sketchbook!
Rivendell was the first time I ever tried doing a full spread...and I didn’t enjoy the experience 😅
But I might give it another try with Lórien, since it’ll be more of a forest, and I think I can hide the middle crease better hahaha

Finished chap. 6-8 of book 2 of THE TWO TOWERS. An interesting conversation about stories between Sam and Frodo who mentioned Gollum’s part but completely ignored my contributions. Why did I bother to come on this #WalktoMordor anyway?
Still, I think it would make a great movie!

Finished chapters 4-5 of book 2 of THE TWO TOWERS. Some stewed coneys and then a chat with Faramir. I had my concerns at first but he showed his quality. Time to get a little rest before heading on to Mount Doom. #WalktoMordor

Mein Onkel hat heute Geburtstag...

in alter Hobbit-Tradition starte ich am nächsten Tag eine kleine Wanderung.

Wer Bock hat läd sich die Walking Middle Earth App runter, notiert seine Schritte und marschiert mit.

Let's go!

This land is wide. This land is wild,
a weary walk for a hobbit child.
At night we lie on rock to sleep,
and trudge all day on weary feet
to where Weathertop glowers
with its ruined towers.
There we’ll make our stand,
at the heart of this cold hard land.

#WalktoMordor We're out of the Midgewater Marshes at last. The first thing we did was light a fire and dry out our sodden tootsies: 4 pairs of hairy feet and 1 pair of soft wrinkly ones steaming in front of the flames. Even Bill the Pony looks happy to be back on solid ground.

#WalktoMordor: the Midgewater Marshes are so tedious there's nothing to say, except that Pippin keeps moaning about missing 2nd breakfast and we've been bitten by itchibugs on every inch of exposed skin. Strider says we're a pack of lightweights, but I noticed him scratching too.

#WalktoMordor the journey through the Chetwood & out into the pathless wilderness took 3 days. Three interminable days in which nothing happened except Pippin grumbling about Second Breakfast, Bill dropping piles of horse apples, & Strider ambling along looking self-satisfied.

#WalktoMordor. We are on our way again. The Riders managed to scare off the ponies, so all we have is one baggage pony, Bill, who has taken a special liking to Sam and his apples.

Strider is to guide us across the wild lands to Weathertop. He says his shortcuts never go wrong.

#WalktoMordor 'They are the Nazgûl, Ringwraiths, neither living nor dead. At all times they feel the presence of the Ring, drawn to the power of the One. They will never stop hunting you.'

We are all huddled in Strider's room tonight. Oh Gandalf, where are you when we need you?

#WalktoMordor 163 miles. I set myself the challenge of walking to the Midgewater Marshes by #TolkienReadingDay today, but I won't quite make it until tomorrow. I've walked 91 miles in 18 days, average 5.3 miles per day. In my slow LOTR retelling I've reached Bree, and the Nazgûl.

#WalktoMordor It Comes in Pints.

There's a strange man in the corner watching us. He looks suspicious: could he be an enemy? Pippin's had too much ale and he's just about given away the name 'Baggins'. I have to do something.

I'll sing them a song. What could possibly go wrong?

#WalktoMordor 135mi: The Prancing Pony at Bree is full of big folk, which is disconcerting. They wanted to know our names & business at the gate. Apparently there've been some strange folk seen recently. The Hobbits here seem just like Shire folk. There're even some Underhills.

#WalktoMordor So dark. So cold. Has my adventure ended so soon? I manage to stand. My friends are lying cold as death upon stone. Something old and evil is coming; I hew at it with a sword, and thoughts of the Shire strengthen me. "Come, Tom Bombadil, for our need is near us."

#WalktoMordor 115mi: Captured by Barrow Wight.

It was so warm on the hill and I dozed off. Now the mist is down, it's bitterly cold, and I can't find my friends. I thought I'd found the north-gate of the Barrow-downs but instead I'm passing between standing stones. Who is here?

0 0 1 0

#WalktoMordor Waking at Bombadil's house, to the fair voice of Goldberry. I dreamed of a song "like a pale light... and a far green country under a swift sunrise".

Now we are setting off over green hills after a magnificent breakfast, across the Barrow-downs to Bree.

#WalktoMordor So warm. So sleepy. There's a faint, distant song on the air. I need to sit down under this willow.

Sam's run off: where does he find the energy? Merry & Pippin are squeaking, some kind of fuss about who-knows-what. I'll just close my eyes for a moment.

#WalktoMordor I don't like the Old Forest. It's hot under the trees & we've lost the path. Merry says we should head north, toward the great East Road, but every time we see the sun we've veered eastward. We are stumbling downhill into a misty ravine. Could it be the Withywindle?

#WalktoMordor
"Sing Hey! for the bath at close of day
that washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he who will not sing:
O! Water hot is a noble thing."

We're clean and warm and fed. Pippin is singing (off key) and flooding the bathroom. I'm preparing myself to slip away alone.

In my slow #WalktoMordor reread of LOTR I will have passed Bree by #TolkienReadingDay2021 25 March, but I wonder if I can challenge myself to reach the Midgewater Marshes? 100 miles in 20 days. I'll let you know how far I get.
