‘A win for nature and people’: Elizabeth line soil used to create Essex bird haven A record 39,000 birds are overwintering on Wallasea island wetlands thanks to soil transported from London tunnels

From 0 birds, to 39,000 birds - all thanks to soil!

Congrats to @Natures_Voice on amazing work at Wallasea, through the re-use of 3million tons of soil excavated during the construction of @TfL's Elizabeth Line.

Very lucky to have @Natures_Voice team meeting at our #Wallasea reserve. Amazing that a decade ago this #coastalwetland bird paradise was arable fields.
Below left is main sluice.
Birds seem to appreciate effective fox-proof fence set in water (instead of electric).
