The Sigillite sat quietly on the stone bench in the garden that was his most precious sanctum. This tiny walled enclosure was his final peaceful redoubt in the immensity of the Imperial Palace. Brightly coloured hummingbirds flitted between the blooms drinking their fill of the sweet nectar. They had been reengineered in great secrecy and at great expense by the master gene smiths of Terra's lone natural satellite. He had procured the last remaining examples simply for the pleasure he derived from watching their ballet. He found a simile for the fledgling Imperium in their existence; like the Empire of Man they must constantly consume in order to survive Malcador's peace was broken by the approach of the only being in reality that could eclipse his psychic might. He felt the corona of the Emperor's aura long before He physically entered the oasis, it was like the sky lightening before the sun rose above the horizon. "Malcador" The Emperor intoned, His voice rich and warm but edged with the slightest concern. "Yes my friend" replied Malacador, "What troubles you?" "A couple of matters. Firstly we have heard nothing from the 567th, the astropaths have detected no messages in weeks. I am concerned for the fate of the Second." Malcador kept his composure but a wave of discomfort swept through his ancient frame. He suddenly felt very cold. "Does something trouble you?" Enquired the Emperor with obvious care. "No my Lord." Replied Malcador, disassembling carefully, "I shall investigate these disturbing events at once. By your leave?" Of course, Replied the Emperor. Malcador hurried from the garden, it's pleasures turned to ash in his mind as he furiously berated himself. He activated the hidden vox bead in his robes and contacted the duty astropath. Contact Lord Russ at once, no excuses, no delays. Affirmative Lord Sigillite, What is the nature of the message? The difference, replied Malcador with a grimace, "Between the high and low gothic notation of the number eleven.
Since there’s both new wolves and new heresy coming I can drop this old thing again.
It explains a lot.
