Close view of the tip of a branch of a mid sized (? maybe waist high or a bit more) very vigorous shrub. We see one mature leaf pointing upwardlonger than wide, shiny mi-green with reddish tones, light hitting the centre so it appears lighter, finely toothed slightly wavy edges. There is a second very small emerging leaf to the left, and a cluster of 7 buds. The buds are greeny pale yellow and mostly sit on or just above the large leaf, they are varying sizes, with one just about to open. The background is blurred, more foliage of the same plant, some light spots from buds etc, and some dark shadows.

Diervilla lonicera bush Honeysuckle buds- I should add an overview shot- watch this space...lol. From wild #Saskatchewan seed. A vigorous small-medium shrub (plant it where suckers aren't a problem!) with a long bloom season and *loved* by pollinators! #WildflowerGarden #Alberta 🌱📷#Bloomscrolling

Planted wildflowers for birds, bees and everything in between. If we all did our part, imagine the difference it could make. Don’t mow the clover the bees need it. Plant a patch, grow life and tag your garden. 🌸🐝🌿

It is bee season in the garden. I do not know all the species by name, but I do recognize them by sight. "Ah yes with stripey ones of medium size." Here on a woodbeauty in the front garden.

Tufted evening primrose, Oenothera caespitosa, a plant with a rosette of leaves, two of them close together in their picture. The green leaves are quite cut and crinkled along the margins and wider towards the ends, though quite narrow. The very large white flowers with four thin petals are quite striking.

As usual the plants closest to sidewalks and rocks bloom first.

A few May wildflower garden shots. Bugle, red campion and sweet woodruff. The bugle is alive with insects from dawn to dusk, even in the shade. The woodruff has spread from a small patch in the garden to filling virtually every available space. Very recommended […]

This is the end of a penstemon stalk I cut last year. It is about 30 cm long and 5 mm in diameter. I am reasonably sure that some of the tiny black bees I see in my garden at this time of year will have nested here last year.

A plant with blue-gray leaves that are very decided leaves like a fern with a triangular outline and a soft texture. Five leaves spring up from the base of the plant with one flower stem topped by the classic umbrella shaped inflorescence of the parsley family and two immature inflorescences still nestled down in the center of the plant.

Alt text fact: salt-and-pepper flowers have an edible root, but they are said to have a bitter flavor that requires extensive cooking to make them palatable.

This plant was transplanted into my prairie garden a couple years ago. This was a two for one special, I was aiming to rescue the white penstemon, the dark green leaves just visible in the grass. I took it from the site of a new housing development.

Golden northern bumblebee — Bombus fervidus, head down with its dark wings folded across her back and golden fuzz showing on her back and abdomen. A pollen sack shows yellow on the nearer of two rear legs. She is in the broad dish shaped three petaled flower of a Rocky Mountain mariposa — Calochortus gunnisonii. The interior of the flower is fuzzy yellow with numerous stamens on the base of each petal while the ovary in the center stands up with a three part pistol.
