There are journalists who’ve been experiementing with social platforms since the early days. For example starting in like 2010 the #WJChat community was literally a weekly chat around a hashtag where journalists got together to talk about use of social tools.
It’s a trip seeing that some people imported their #wjchat tweets.
Every Wednesday at 5PM PT / 8PM ET for 7 years. What a moment in time.
I've left mine for the archivists. #wjchat
What wired journalism was like when the wires cost $5 an hour to use: tedium.co/2020/08/11/compuserve-vi... #wjchat #journalism
And keep an eye on @Camayak—I hear those guys are doing cool things! #wjchat
Not a problem! Glad to chip in! You fine #wjchat folks can follow my weird online adventures here: https://tedium.co/
A11B Let me check under my skin and I'll get back to you. #wjchat
A11A I think *automation* is good in some contexts. Maybe not robots. See: https://sfbne.ws/24yU1CF #wjchat
A11A Depends on whether I get to program the robot #wjchat
That said, some models, like @TheAnnMag, make print work well. #wjchat
A10 I think it's better to treat print and digital as two different editorial platforms, if you can. Putting print > digital is bad #wjchat
I think @theannmag has some insights on Q10 … #wjchat
Worked on it for seconds ;) #wjchat https://x.com/mdeziel/status/728034643031818240
And a master of analytics in journalism enters … #wjchat https://x.com/arctictony/status/728033194524692480
A9 Not much analytics on my end. I would be curious to hear about newsrooms that were trying it. #wjchat
A8 Bad. It silos off good ideas that could make every newsroom better. I would love to see more sharing. #wjchat
A7 The thing with workflow tools is that if they're well optimized it can turn a madhouse into a well-optimized factory line. #wjchat
A7 I think it would be helpful for the tool to be able to let you know has room to take on another thing. #wjchat
That would be great. RT @TheAnnMag A7 Rim, slot and designers. #wjchat
Q7 A smoothie-maker. #wjchat
A6 I think that Markdown shows the benefits of being able to use any tool you want as long as the results are the same. #wjchat
A6 I'm a fan of multiple tools, as long as they work well. If editing tools embraced the IFTTT philosophy that'd be great. #wjchat
The other thing Hemingway was good at #wjchat https://x.com/TheAnnMag/status/728027249270755328
A5 I have a giant folder with thousands of files, all of which I access through Dropbox, whether on laptop or mobile. #wjchat
A5 I think Dropbox or a similar cloud service is a hugely important tool. The fewer emails needed to move copy, the better. #wjchat
A5 Really like AtD too, @acnatta. I like https://t.co/FS9Vvum8PX but wish it was getting more maintenance. #wjchat
A4 In terms of digital stuff though, I spent a lot of time cleaning up the copy of others, but broken code is such a pain point. #wjchat
A4 I remember this time I wrote a joke on a front page teaser and it got into print. "Whatever Jim Writes" I think was the phrase. #wjchat
