#wordladders player feels philosophical, ending their abstraction ladder with the inevitable truth "everything is a thing" ๐

here's another folksonomy from Word Ladders data: a FOX classified as a type of FELINE. Apparently this is a very common misconception, at least in #WordLadders data.

Another #WordLadders pearl: this is the ladder of abstraction created by a creative user ๐ , starting from prompt word ๐ APPLE (remember the rules: climbing up the ladder words are increasingly more general, strolling down are increasingly more specific:

SO MANY abstraction ladders in which meronymy is confused with hyponymy! "seed" as a suptype of "apple", a classic :-) This suggests that hierarchical semantic relations in our minds are not very stable and clear. How about #LLMs?
Arrived back home in Bologna and found a nice poscard by @adeleloia.bsky.social and @caterinavillani.bsky.social from San Francisco (#cogsci-2025) ๐ฅฐ
Apparenly Lombard street' iconic stairs evoked #wordladders and language-mediated abstraction :-)

Iโll present a longitudinal study (w/@mariannabolog.bsky.social & @adeleloia.bsky.social) on how school-aged children build taxonomies using the #WordLadders task developed by @abstractionerc.bsky.social

Feedback raccolto dai bambini: "mi รจ piaciuto costruire le scale di parole perchรฉ ho capito che si puรฒ partire da una parola e seguire una scala e arrivare dove non sapevi che saresti potuto arrivare."

I saw that someone on #googlestore left a review for #wordladders in which they were a bit disappointed when they figured out that they could use the same highly generic word "object" or "entity" as highest step of many word ladders. For me this same feature is satisfying.

And at the end of a long day in public schools collecting data with the #wordladders app, @CaterinaVillan8 and I epically jumped on the wrong train, opposite direction to Bologna. Sooooo....we take it from here, with a spritz.

Ready to test the #wordladders app in middle and primary schools, to collect data. We will then come back to this school in May and use the app again, to observe lexical improvements.
To analyze and visualize the linguistic data provided by #wordladders users we are trying out various #knowledge graphs. Here, a cleaner version of the hierarchical relations provided by users who played the word GATTO (cat) in Italian.
