"Silent tears fall as morbid fantasies arise. If she dies, then she’ll never have to be played with like a toy again. She could finally be free. She’d be blissfully unaware of anything, floating through peaceful nothingness with the rest of humanity that either didn’t make it, or never got to live in the first place. Someday, she’ll return to that void, and if her end is as early as she thinks then she’d simply wait for Marcie and the rest of her family to inevitably join, as Syphus does not leave dead ends. She’ll chatter with energy that has no place to go, in the meantime. She’d learn of their earthly lives, and learn to have the kind of conversations she never got to have in this life. The ones she’s too scared to have. The kind of conversations that reveal a truth so big, the rumbles of earth’s crust sinking does nothing to deter its impact. Then, she’ll make it up to everyone, and finally be truthful for the first time in her entire life. Maybe they’d all be reborn together in a new world entirely, where she can run on the ground and touch the dirt or look up and see the sky. She lingers on the warmth of that hope for just a little longer before her eyes open again, with a blank stare and eyes sagging with weariness. Fantasies aside, this is a reality Ember brought upon herself. Shivers go up and down her body as rushes of adrenaline course through her veins. He must be so angry. She quit in quite a flair, in a way he’d be proud of, if only it were directed at anyone else." Chapter two Excerpt of Midnight Everlast by M. M. Chamberlain.
Okay im a little too obsessed with this excerpt. It wonderfully sums up only the BEGINNING of Ember's story. I'm so excited to see how much better I can make this, as nothing is final for me until it is!! Alt text available!! #amwriting #writingexcerpt #wip
