A morning up on the mountain with the amazing and inspiring Anastasia Arteyeva. An artist in her own right she brings that vision to any environment she enters. This frame was at the beginning of our session when we were hiking thru rock formations. She pulled out this body sock from her bag, something I used before in other shoots, it is a great and fun ice breaker to get into a creative flow. Our nature session lasted the whole morning and produced a ton of wonderful art thanks to Anastasia… a day, a photoshoot I hold as a memorable one to this day. For this shot I used my trusty ole Fujifilm X100T using available reflective yet diffused morning light, and a little luck as we were basically in the shade of big boulders and rock faces. Thanks Anastasia, it’s always an honor to work together 🌹

May 1915 was the last time California had a volcanic eruption, second to last with Mt. St. Helen in Washington state being the last in 1980. Touring the mountain of Lassen you can find continuous active features on the mountain itself with steam vents and bubbling volcanic mud pits and hot springs. This was my second time with the lovely Verronica, the first was when I visited Portland Oregon and the second time (this one) was at the FD Studios rooftop in Los Angeles' fashion district. The sun had already just set at this moment so I was working with reflective light from the sky and surrounding structures without artificial light and I wanted somewhat of a high key, moderately high contrast image. Luckily my old Fujifilm camera was able to get what I wanted quite cleanly. Kudos to my friend in creation Verronica for her time, talent, bravery, grit and stunning figure once again.
