The plinths basically follow the same pattern as the cornices.

I've also added some weathering in th elower areas thus getting close to be able to permanently fix the depot building to the baseboard.

For ease of handling I've added the cornices before finally mounting the remaining arcade walls to the building. As for the windowframes I've glued two pieces of cardboard together, then removed the exess material with two cuts parallel to the step -easy!

I had to deal with the windows at quite an early stage, because the little jutty in front of the office has some. They were cut from cardboard with additional window bars made from paper strips.

That was a good occasion to start painting, too.

It's obvious that I've started building the Capistrano depot a while ago - time to catch up withthe report:
I've found some plans in the internet, which I scaled, laminated onto 2mm wood pulp, and cut out.

Doorcases and windowframes are made from cardboard.

It's a smooth runner (despite the two axles) and has illuminated head and tail lights (though they're not visible in this clip).

roof - a mix of dull coat and NATO leather brown
skirts and beige areas - GW sepia ink
louvres - painted ...

Just a small detail: Capistrano's loading siding had two permanent wheel blocks at its end.

I replicated them with a punched out piec of card and a bit of paper strip.

They actually do their job!

To solder or not to solder, that is the question. I finally got started laying track today, and a big question popped into my head. What is the consensus on soldering rail joiners when laying track? I did it 40 years ago on the 4 x 8 layout in Mom & ...

I don't know if it's a 50/50 split, but people really have strong opinions.

I don't see enough talk about what scale people are in, b/c in #ZGauge it seems like you can't make any mistakes w/ rail joiners or you'll end up soldering...

I had to guess the proportions of the freight shed and tested it with a simple cardmodel.
The final building is made of cardboard ranging from paper to 1mm thickness. The roof is covered with a selfadhesive Redutex texture (->www.redutex.com).
