Last but not least. The biggest zip bomb analyzed. My Python script works much better than expected. This one uncompresses from 46 MB → 4.5 PB. That is a unbelievable large number. Now I make a well working tool from what I learned.

My notebooks works also on more dangerous zip bombs. I had to modify the notebook to get this number. Without doing so Jupyter stopped working for security reasons. This zip bomb uncompresses from 10 MB → 281 TB.

I am surprised. I am able to identify a state of the art zip bomb. Here the zip bomb uncompresses from 42 kB → 5.5 GB. The test was quick and dirty programmed, but works. The tested one is a dangerous non-recursive one.

I have been reading a lot about zip bombs over the last few days without knowing what they are. The next image shows the principle. A large text file is compressed to a small zip file. Do this on a computer with a really big file. Then you can say good night.
