The accusations against Eric Swalwell are serious and deeply disturbing. There is no place for sexual assault in public life or anywhere else. He should undertake a swift, public and independent investigation into these allegations. He should resign from Congress and end his campaign for governor.
By the way: Eric sent those cease & desists in response to being asked for comment on the CNN story.
He had his lawyer TEXT cease & desists to the WOMEN SAYING HE RAPED THEM in the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. They were not named!

Eric Swalwell has effectively admitting having sex outside his marriage. But that is not disqualifying and it's certainly not sexual assault.
If he committed assault, he should resign. But we should look critically at allegations before jumping to conclusions.

Take a look at the CNN sourcing and fact-checking on their Swalwell article. Look at how many extra people they contacted in order to corroborate claims. They viewed screenshots, called parents/husbands/friends/colleagues. They viewed TV footage and interviews, & more. Two things worth pointing out:

It is not at all surprising that Eric Swalwell is a sex pest. It -is-surprising that other people are surprised that he is.
Most people have no idea how much evidence you need to gather (and how much courage victims need to share the details) to get a story like this past a libel attorney. This graf in CNN's piece offers a glimpse of the effort involved.
I don't know if the allegations against Eric Swalwell are true. If he sexually assaulted a woman, he should be in prison.
As a former prosecutor I have many questions. We don't abandon critical thinking based on allegations.
