Rats and mice rapidly update timed behaviors - Animal Cognition Keeping track of time intervals is a crucial aspect of behavior and cognition. Many theoretical models of how the brain times behavior make predictions for steady-state performance of well-learned int...

How quickly can rodents adapt to changes in time durations in their environment? Work from @oberlincollege.bsky.social suggests they can recognize and respond extremely quickly, hinting at a rapid mechanism for learning about time in the brain. link.springer.com/article/10.1...

My feed is overwhelmed with scientists right now calling out the catastrophic consequences of the NIH indirect cost order from last night. If those same people aren't also speaking out against the anti-trans, anti-DEI, anti-immigrant orders...we are lost. The only path forward is solidarity.

Indirect Costs at NIH . . . I wasn’t planning on spending part of a Saturday writing about cost accounting principles and the like, but NIH-world was hit with a doozy of a policy announcement on Friday night:

Honored to receive first place poster award at #wcbr2025! Thanks to all who stopped by. The poster (and my panel) explored divergent signaling dynamics in VTA dopamine subpopulations, as well as functional roles for glutamate and dopamine in co-transmitting VTA neurons. Stay tuned for more!

Big Supreme Court argument today regarding the right of trans kids to get proper medical care. This matters. Diminishing the rights of one group diminishes the rights of all us.

Ketone ester–enriched diet ameliorates motor and dopamine release deficits in MitoPark mice MitoPark mice, a model of Parkinson's disease, fed a ketone ester–enriched diet had moderate improvements in locomotor performance on open field and rotarod behavioural tasks. This behavioural improv....

My main postbac project is published! In collaboration with the late great Richard Veech, we tested how ketone-ester enriched chow impacted the progression of motor and dopamine deficits in the MitoPark mouse model. Find out more here! doi.org/10.1111/ejn....
