Paradox Bound is the book I relisten to when I need hope. It scratches a similar itch as the West Wing or Newsroom for me. Such incredible writing

Saw my first owl in the wild today. Of course I didn’t have my camera with me 🥲 #greathornedowl
There's a post bouncing around about how "any four Republicans could stop this, that should be the big story, not the Democrats." I get the idea, but it's awful framing.
It's like saying "the school shooter should be the real story, not all the Uvalde cops standing around doing nothing."
A sea otter looks at the camera, hands to its face.
It's a lot.
Every day, new onslaughts in so many different spheres. It's hard to keep up, let alone act. Simply being a patriotic American today feels like being an epidemiologist in the early days of the pandemic.
Do what you can—then be gentle with yourself. Take time. You need your strength.
This boy was a friendly stray whom we’re now looking for a home. If we weren’t at capacity, I’d have no hesitation to keep him. He’s the absolute best. Cuddle monster, not afraid of strangers, loves all other animals including dogs. This is Lewis. :)
Elon Musk is a terrible president.
A small family of splitgill mushrooms grows from the underside of an upturned stick like a bouquet of flowers. Behind them is a gray, bare, winter forest All photos by me
Here are some nice mushrooms
My therapist seemed genuinely puzzled that I don’t know the difference between fear and anxiety.
It’s all about the money. It’s always about the money. Those who care for others want it but are not fixated upon it, will not sell out their morals for it. Those that obsess over it, that can never have enough of it, do not have morals to begin with and will always sell you out to get more of it.
Thank goodness we replaced the word "barriers" with the more pompous "impediments" in our recently funded NSF grant.
So it turns out that compared to centralized distribution of digital information on the web, printed material in libraries provided a kind of distributed defense against the casual whims of an authoritarian government aiming to rewrite history.
So many amazing projects in the responses…Wow. I am so worried for us all

1. Sabotage public institutions.
2. Claim they don’t work efficiently.
3. Eliminate them.

That’s the playbook.
Reminder to those who need it:
1. You can mute the name of the current president and/or anyone else you don't want to constantly hear about here
2. You can mute/block/unfollow accounts that impinge on your calm
3. Social media doesn't have to be a doom scroll, curate your feed to make you happy
A four-panel comic called Instinct is Weird. In panel 1, a yellow warbler looks at a beautiful nest in a shrub and says "I made this for some reason". In panel 2, there are five eggs in the nest and she says "these are my smooth round children". In panel 3 an egg has hatched into a yelling hatchling, and she says "Oh no now it's loud". In panel 4 she looks distressed as five hatchlings now fill the nest, begging for food, and she says "help".
Hello new followers! Here's one of my favorite older comics.
A pelagic duck with a brown head, orange bill, and bright yellow eye flies low over the blue water.
This afternoon I got out in the water with my beloved Barrow's goldeneyes. I've got far too many frames to sort through, but here's one I was really happy with. 🪶
