We need more of this!
Good morning Ottawa.
Bonjour Ottawa.
Interestingly, they are on wheels and so they do roll nicely into the street.☺️
One thing to note is that right now the routing ends when you cross the Ottawa River going to Gatineau.
The team at Cycling Guide Foundation needs community support from each city it launches in. I hope this support comes soon in #Gatineau so that we'll have an app that works throughout the NCR! ☺️🚲
The low stress routing is really awesome, but in addition, to know ahead of time when there is no other option but a crappy painted lane on a high-speed, multi-lane stroad is so amazing.
Doing what I did yesterday would have been near impossible without the app. Honestly.
And it's free. Yup.🥳🚲
Yesterday, running errands in parts of #Ottawa I'm rarely in, reminded me how much I love the Cycling Guide app!
It routed me on low stress pathways and residential streets, and when at my destination near an industrial park, the colour coding told me it was time to hop on the sidewalk.

These are the results of Doug giving 💲💲💲 to his buddies to build and widen highways (only to create more car congestion BTW).
There are no financial challenges. It's just #priorities.

The best quote so far from the Artemis II splashdown commentary: "They are all green." 🤢
Quickly followed up by a chuckle and clarification that they are all ok!😂

This is four years after the City announced their phaseout. I guess with those low taxes we pay, we should be grateful!😂😭
I find it bonkers that @en.ottawa.ca still does this at all hours of the night.
Leaf blowing...the sidewalks. 🧐

It's nice when newspapers use photos of normal every-day people riding bicycles as "just a normal thing to do".
it normalizes the idea that cycling is something anyone can do, for transportation, for getting around the city without the financial (& emotional!) cost of driving a car).
"Cycling represents one of the most energy-efficient forms of transport ever invented, allowing humans to travel faster and farther while using less energy than walking or running."

To quote @tomflood.bsky.social, “Pilot road to be removed, not enough uptake says City - Drivers encouraged to check city website for alternative car routes and future road opportunities.”
From the back seat of the car, when asked if she likes to take the car or the bike to go places:
"The bike.... Remember when the road was digged up and I could ride my bike on the road!? I can't anymore because the cars might run me over."
Had a recent conversation where #activetransportation was framed as a "nice to have" vs #publictransit as "essential."
It would be great if trains or buses pulled up outside everyone's front door, but that is rare.
🚲👨🦼🚶♀️facilities are the BACKBONE of any public system. It's how people reach 🚌🚈.
This past week's federal announcement to protect natural spaces across the country was amazing! 😍🌳
One part of this plan was 15 new national urban parks! Maybe the Queen Elizabeth National Urban Park WILL become reality?! 😲
Good morning Ottawa.
Bonjour Ottawa.
Good news! Thanks Emmett☺️
Also 😬🤞
Bike tunnel through the tavern?
Trans lunar injection burn 🚀🤠
That is what I am hoping for and what kinda makes sense!
"Road widening" is usually needed for cars as they use a lot of real estate. But in this case, more space for cars seems bizarre as they have no place to go. Bus lanes, maybe? But they also need a lot of space. Maybe it is planning more aligned with the OP for 🚶♀️🚲👨🦼?
I agree that there is certainly room for improvement with the City consulting with the residents on the feel of their neighbourhood. But I also question, what does a road widening accomplish? Is it another lane for cars, or maybe it is something good like mobility lanes, wider sidewalks? 🧐
Widening of Parkdale Ave? 😵💫
Wut the.....
Hot Tips🔥
Drivers: pay when you park
Also,
City: make it easier for drivers to pay. One app, no machines.
Paid parking is good for drivers, businesses, and the City.
Staple racks! Yes, those are great☺️
Really? It's a great urban space! He was checking it out today! ☺️
