New piece on the LSE Impact Blog on why finding books in translation is still so hard — and why the problem isn't content but infrastructure.
Nearly 90% of the ISBN-verified editions in Zenòdot appear in only one of its 23 sources.
A man develops a wound where you’d expect a nail. He doesn’t pray. He gets a filleting knife.
“Stigmata” — new story, up now.
When did you stop expecting miracles?

It happens to be Good Friday, and some timing you don't argue with.
A man who doesn't believe in God but needs to know why his wrist bleeds on Fridays. "Stigmata" — new on Mediterranean Gothic.

Mediterranean Gothic fiction and essays at ausiastsel.substack.com — horror under bright sun, Catholic ritual, villages that keep secrets in plain sight. Work in Flash Fiction Magazine, Neon & Smoke, Pithead Chapel. #HorrorWritersChat
Working on Mediterranean Gothic flash — Catholic ritual, village silence, things that stay buried under civic politeness. Just had a piece in Pithead Chapel and another forthcoming in Flash Fiction Magazine. Spring is for processions and submission deadlines. #HorrorWritersChat
By the third day of spring, the garden had started asking for names. The old woman next door said that was normal. “Give it the names of people who owe you something,” she said, pulling weeds bare-handed. “It settles faster that way.” #HorrorWritersChat
Flowers on graves. In València, spring means cemetery visits, fresh paint on niches, families arguing over lunch while the dead listen. Everything blooms and everything rots at the same pace. #HorrorWritersChat
Ausiàs Tsel, from the Valencian Country. Mediterranean Gothic: horror under bright sun, Catholic guilt as architecture, villages that remember everything. I love writing the moment before someone understands what they’ve seen. #HorrorWritersChat
Apparently I'll be published in the London School of Economics Impact Blog in a couple of weeks. So much for not changing careers at forty.
Ja ens han arribat les 25 còpies de la segona tirada de “Per un grapat de joies”, la traducció en català d’un parell de contes de Lord Dunsany, feta a base de vi i amor. 🍇
Podeu encarregar-lo per DM o a pegana.cat@gmail.com (12€), i llegir-ne el text (gratuït, creative commons!) a www.pegana.cat
Thank you; and thank you for the 6 Ukrainian ISBNs you contributed! They’ve already been processed and added to the database. Next time you search, those editions will show up with a small badge crediting the community contribution.
This kind of input is incredibly valuable!
Update: should work better now. Not perfect, but better.

This is actively being worked on. Appreciate the detailed report; it's exactly the kind of feedback that helps us prioritize.
I’m going to try to fix it today.
Thanks again!
The misattribution of a Russian edition as Ukrainian for Fahrenheit 451 is a known issue with some upstream data sources confusing ru/uk.
We do have Ukrainian editions in our accumulated data for all three books, including the correct "451 за Фаренгейтом" and "Гіперіон" — but our frontend doesn't yet pull from that local store.
Thanks for testing these, all three cases are real gaps we're aware of.
Ukrainian (and other non-Western languages) are underrepresented in the databases we currently query in real time.
Oh, you are too kind. Thanks!
That would be a first. If you spot me there, take a photo. I need proof I exist outside Substack.
I might have a few of those. Dusty, Mediterranean, with a faint smell of incense and old stone. Consider me nudged.
Nop. Only existencial dread and haunting memories.
Yours truly will be on Flash Fiction Magazine June 21, 2026.
