PhD opportunity to start September 2024! Come work on climate change and antibiotic resistance with me, Ed Feil, Angus Buckling, and others. We will use lab experiments, modelling and sequencing to look how plasmid transfer, selection, and costs of resistance change with temperature.

Macroevolutionary dynamics in micro-organisms: generalists give rise to specialists across biomes in the ubiquitous bacterial phylum Myxococcota Abstract. Prokaryotes dominate the Tree of Life, but our understanding of the macroevolutionary processes generating this diversity is still limited. Habit

Accepted in MBE: we do targeted sequencing of Myxococotta across environments to try understand how transitions between biomes happen through macroevolutionary time. TL;DR Evolved generalism mediated transitions between specialists in different biomes. academic.oup.com/mbe/advance-...

Varying phylogenetic signal to four bacterial pathogens across species of Drosophilidae bioRxiv - the preprint server for biology, operated by Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a research and educational institution

Congrats Hongbo! 1st PhD paper with @blongdon.bsky.social & @benraymond.bsky.social.

#Pathogen host shift modelling w/ #bacteria infections across a 36-species panel. Great dataset and analysis to start teasing apart the rules of host*pathogen dynamics across species.

Our new study investigates the evolution of virulence of a fungal entomopathogen in vivo. Through a lens of evolutionary theory, we explore multi-level selection, revealing conflicts and potential for improving biocontrol traits! @benraymond.bsky.social
