What can we learn from this?

AI is, in a lot of ways, still entirely unreliable as a source of information.

It’s being abused on a grand scale.

And, of course, big tech don’t really care if it eats into your profit margin, as long as it keeps increasing theirs!

Search engine AI overviews (which don’t have any capacity to differentiate what is legit or otherwise apart from probability and source quality, I guess) now assume my info from a single Instagram reel is correct.

Which, fortunately it is.

Voila.

I decided to use AI to take my revenge.

Given that Dan Myshkin doesn’t exist, there isn’t any info out there on him for AI to draw on.

So I made some - specifically, a video spelling out exactly what happened.

As that is now the only source of Dan Myshkin info out there, guess what?

They even stole my font for their cover

Development on this since I wrote it last year.

I got AIthor’d.

Scammers scammed my book about scams by making an AI-generated version of it written by imaginary fraud expert, Dan Myshkin (sick name though guys credit where it’s due) and publishing it on Amazon. Right under mine in searches.

Prob won't be able to go back and correct old eps but new series will have the right name!

a tissue on a tray with a bunch of pictures and phrases and about food. but it seemingly contains a bunch of errors and nonsense: “Doltclous” “A full suamsh makes for you a happy heram” “bood food is bood mood”

AI in the wild? This tray tissue I was given at a restaurant is full of errors and hallucinations…!

Hello! I actually think a lot of them are the beginning of mission scams/job scams. Not sure about the profile pic thing. I have one!

Hi Mike. It’s neither! Not in the business of selling my integrity down the river to fake something and let’s just say that scammers have a very insecure way of making calls. We work with an ethical hacker to access them at the scammers’ end.

3) #Bank impersonation related to plane tickets. Robocall from "VISA Security Department" about a charge on your debit card for a flight to Mexico. "Press 2 to cancel and speak to fraud dept". Will result in large scale bank impersonation scam.

If in any doubt always call your bank directly!

2) "Energy Club" claiming to be energy consultants offering their help in getting you a better rate on your #bill. Using current concerns around price rises as a way in. Most likely they will just charge you for a subscription and not actually sign you up with any new provider.

Three #scam calls hitting #UK today:

1) "Solar rebates program" #phishing call, trying to get you to share info about property/personal circumstances, by claiming they can get you discounted solar panels. Probably going to pass on to other scammers or use themselves in future.

Increasingly finding that Instagram is a good place for me to do scam advice in short form videos. I am @staplenick on there if you’re keen on getting some of it
