Mayor of #OttCity proudly supports having the lowest property taxes in ON; meanwhile our streets crumble; parks unmaintained; sidewalks are in ruins; community centres/libraries reduced hours & pt of $11b infra backlog; just look at the vote spread: inside red line is 50% of population 1/
So far this government has:
- removed EV mandates (and moreover paused rebates to stall the market)
- removed carbon tax
- removed low carbon electricity policy
- removed gasoline tax
- removed oil and gas cap
when does the Canadian Federal government do climate policy?
Gas tax breaks are bandaids at best. Real solution is to help low & middle-income Cdns get off fossil fuels. Invest in solar, heat pumps, batteries, EVs. Tackle barriers, offer real incentives & fund w/ windfall tax on Big Oil (who are laughing all the way to the bank). Cleaner, cheaper, healthier.

Ottawa Police didn’t attend after a driver ran a red light and injured a cyclist. 🚲🚨
Here’s the problem: the City tracks only fatal & major injuries.
Minor injuries and close calls go uncounted—yet they cause fear, deter active transport, and affect quality of life.

You expect Norwegians to care about eutrophication?
There used to be a speed camera here.
And of course the birds are returning!
Perhaps a spicy #OttBike take but this might be my favourite time of year for bike commuting. Snow and salt are mostly gone so I can pull out my summer bike. If you dress well, the weather is fine and bikeways aren't crowded with people yet.
The "I made this" meme but the first guy has an Iranian flag, he's handing a globe to American flag guy Iran: I'm blocking the strait America: you're blocking the strait? (concerned) America: (thinking) America: I'm blocking the strait
My thoughts on Anthropic Mythos. It's not the end of world (and quite frankly so far appears to be completely irrelevant to the real world).

I hate to be pedantic, but here in Canada we spell it a bit differently.

Ecologists I need a favor! 🌎🌍🌏
I am teaching a GIS class for freshmen. I want to zoom in for like 15-20 min with other ecologists that are using drones, uav, collars, biologgers, telemetry, or any type of sensors to study wildlife. 1️⃣
New: 150 unionized ProPublica workers are on strike TODAY over AI, layoff protections, wages, and more.
They're asking readers to not visit ProPublica or engage with content on other platforms. It's the first work stoppage of its kind at the newsroom.

I tried to explain to somebody about why sometimes people on bikes do things drivers might not understand in order to ensure our own survival and was informed that we are not actually entitled to survival.
Which felt kind of aggressive.

Child on their bike with a backpack on riding on a paved cycle path. Three more bikers are ahead on the path. The river on the right has a fair bit of snow on it. On the left are some townhouses.
Still ice on the river but nothing on the trail to stop our mini bike bus. It was - 7°C but just a few complaints of cold.
Reminder that Transport Canada wants to hear how much you love being blinded by passing headlights.

Map of Quebec in green showing the boundary mentioned in the above post that Quebec claims as their own despite court rulings. The disputed boundary is in the south of Labradour on the right side of the map.
I had to go check and my kid's geography textbook has this figure. In text too small to read it says the 1927 boundary is "non définitif".
Someone with the handle @velocity69.bsky.social is sharing a video with the caption:
"The highest quality video of the moon was just released…
so beautiful
* Artemis II"
It's gone viral, but it's not from Artemis II. If you've shared it, you might want to un-share.
Transport Canada is seeking feedback on experience of road users with headlight glare. Worth putting your comments in if you have strong feelings about being blinded at night.

A drawing titled "Wild Rabbit vs. Easter Bunny". On the left, there's a wild cottontail bunny sitting down looking alert. On the right, there's a cartoonish Easter Bunny wearing a little polkadot vest and standing next to some colorful eggs. The wild bunny is labeled "Eyes on the sides of the head to watch for predators." and the Easter Bunny "Forward-facing eyes to hunt for meat." Wild bunny: "Active all year." Easter Bunny: "Only active in Spring - otherwise in diapause as a cyst?" Wild bunny: "Walks on four legs." Easter Bunny: "Unusual bipedal stance." Wild bunny: "Plain brown and white fur." Easter Bunny: "Distinctive vest-like markings." Wild bunny: "Gives birth to live young." Easter Bunny: "Steals and redistributes eggs; parasitic reproductive strategy?"
Few are brave enough to acknowledge the truth.
Media stop publishing stories based on pre-prints, difficulty impossible.
Recommend checking out the take down of the paper. I agree this manuscript looks like trash, but anyone can put anything on a preprint server. They have uses, but should not be treated as anything but a draft submission.
No wonder folks don't want to stay. This 'solution' to homelessness in Fake London is a 21 min drive to downtown with zero transit access in the middle of nowhere. Feels more like a way to get them out of sight.

Many of you asked for some DIY plans for building your own LaneSaber Bike Safety Flag.
I understand that for some access to tools and skills to build these are not universal. I am here to help you through the steps or if you want you can buy one directly from me.
