Day 20, Global Trend: Urban segregation isn’t just rising or falling, it’s changing where it comes from. In cities like Budapest, it’s increasingly driven by the divide between the historic core and the rest, while in Vienna, differences within areas are becoming more important. #30DayChartChallenge

Day 19, Evolution: How does happiness evolve after moving from Hungary to Austria? Just like in evolution, adaptation matters. Over time, migrants report greater happiness, mirroring positive shifts in other subjective well-being domains, such as life satisfaction and optimism. #30DayChartChallenge

Day 17, Remake: Last year, we looked at housing prices in Budapest; this year, we have shifted our focus to Vienna, zooming in on medium-sized apartments built before 1960 across districts. The 1st district (Innere Stadt) clearly stands out from the rest. #30DayChartChallenge #Vienna
Day 15, Correlation: In Neubau, the negative correlation between income level and inequality in the neighbourhood has become stronger from 2011 to 2020. There is a tendency for higher status areas to become more homogeneous, while social mix is higher in lower status areas. #30DayChartChallenge
Day 14, Trade: Quick snapshot from Vienna (10th & 15th districts): we checked some apartments for sale in Gründerzeit architecture buildings. Even in this small, non-representative sample, there’s a clear pattern: 4th-floor units tend to come with slightly higher price tags. #30DayChartChallenge
Day 13, Ecosystem: Exploring the housing ecosystem in Lower Austria: how do land prices relate to the share of single family houses in second-hand ownership at the municipal level? #30DayChartChallenge
Day 11, Physical: Residential streets are meant for people, but they’re still designed for cars. This is particularly problematic around schools and kindergartens. In the Ma(r)king Neighborhoods project, we’re asking the question: how do children experience these streets? #30DayChartChallenge

Day 10, Pop Culture: Budapest streets named after famous writers, poets, artists, and actors — but do they come with a price tag? Turns out, not really. A twist: streets named after the Jókai–Laborfalvi couple are actually cheaper, even though they’re scattered across the city. #30DayChartChallenge
Day 9, Wealth: The Viennese district of Neubau shows high income variation within housing market segments. This shows that apart from income and housing types, other aspects of wealth and localised housing characteristics influence residential sorting. #30DayChartChallenge #Sorting
Day 8, Circular: We split Vienna into concentric rings and visualised Airbnb listings within each zone using donut charts. The result is striking: far from its original home-sharing purpose, Airbnb has become a playground for profit-driven large-scale investors. #30DayChartChallenge #Vienna
Line chart, Vienna 2000–2024. Both series are indexed to 2005 = 100. Rent index rises from ~95 (2000) to ~188–190 (2024). Disposable income index rises more slowly from ~94 to ~151–152. The gap grows notably after 2010 and again after 2020.
Day 4, Slope: Vienna’s rents have pulled away from incomes. With 2005 = 100, the rent index is near 190 in 2024, while disposable income is ~152. The gap has widened steadily since 2010. #30DayChartChallenge #Vienna #Housing

Day 3, Mosaic: The urban regions of Upper Austria are characterised by highly different housing market segmentation. While Linz and Steyr are dominated by non-profit housing, the regions of Gmunden, Ried or Vöcklabruck are dominated by private housing. #30DayChartChallenge #Housing
Day 2, Pictogram: Timeline for the opening of new municipal and private theaters in Istanbul, differentiated by location: 2000-2025. #30DayChartChallenge #Istanbul
Day 1, Part-to-Whole: Each bar in this graph shows the diverse population distributions of small neighbourhoods in the city region of Gmunden, which collectively contribute to mild segregation levels by country of origin, as measured by the multigroup H-Index. #30DayChartChallenge #Gmunden
