One wonders if "he" understands that he is the captain of the Titanic right now.
Everyone sees the iceberg. But he doesn't seem sure if he wants to avoid it, or run right into it.

Deforestation in Indonesia surged 66% from 2024 to 2025, when more than 433,000 hectares were lost, according to the NGO Auriga Nusantara.
The country reached historic low deforestation in 2021, when around 230,000 hectares were cleared. By Hans Nicholas Jong for @mongabay.com:
Indeed. And I don't have an answer...
We'll keep talking about it!
Unfortunately, ideologies i though were dead are very much alive.
Again, in our individual lives, we have to stay positive and motivated. And just hope and pray, somehow, decision makers come to their senses.
But it's yelling into the void. Its happening.
This isnβt about politics. What just happened in the middle east is a signal to countries that they need to arm themselves in all domains.
The world is getting more dangerous by the day because doubt and suspicion are beginning to grow.
Countries are racing to integrate into most things.
Whats wild is that the algorithms aren't even fully understood in what they do and how they do it by the programmers.
How on earth are regulators supposed to make sense of them??
XD your dig at New Jersey! You're from New York aren't you?
I agree AGI will be a mistake, but I think its inevitable though, because the superpowers are competing for it.
I am hopeful in my individual life, but humanity on this planet. We are in for a wild ride!
Pretty boring picture. Why not send us a picture of a ufo?
π
I hope we never find out. But its not looking good.
I wish I had the confidence U have 2 immediately ascribe the source of people's thoughts.
Ukraine doesn't have response capability. In nuclear war, 1000s of nuclear explosions happen in a short amount of time (1 hour). Michio Kaku explained the danger.
But you know more I guess....
Worse than nuclear war?
You know, enough nuclear bombs go off and the atmosphere is evaporated. Most life, is on the surface. There's about 6,000 km to the planet's core...
I hope you're right!
I am genuinely scared for life on this planet. Truly.
There was a non-zero chance yesterday that the US president was thinking about using nuclear weapons. The most optimistic interpretation was that he was planning the catastrophic destruction of civilian infrastructure. Diplomacy seems like the sensible approach in that situation.
In case there is doubt that countries are seriously preparing for #WW3:
I am not saying it's happening tomorrow.
The role of every politician on the planet should be one of diplomacy, restraint, and compromise. We cannot make mistakes of the past in the 21st century.

Another failure.
Another strategic loss with consequences for decades to come...
We live in truly dangerous times...
Within 3 years, the U.S. Department of Energy aims to build a fully functioning quantum computer that can perform scientifically useful calculations.
However, even scientists working on quantum computing say that objective may be more aspirational than attainable. https://scim.ag/3OdpQmi
I justβ¦I know we shouldnβt give up. But this is so infuriating.
China just overtook the US for the first time in a major metric of top AI talent. Based on first authors at NeurIPS, a premier AI research conference, China now leads with 2,152 first-author researchers vs. the US's 1,810.

Too bad, because controlled environment agriculture saves water, avoids the use of pesticides, and controls the overall quality of what is produced.
This is never priced into the products...
Ah, vertical farms.
The sector is collapsing on high energy and infrastructure costs - now, who coulda predicted that? (π)

A large-scale analysis of U.S. water quality data published last year in Science revealed that most toxic chemicals remain poorly characterized or undetected in routine monitoring. https://scim.ag/4alqHdl #WorldWaterDay
To be fair, nothing happening makes sense.
Thats where I think the science community, we failed.
We were never able to translate the abstract into concrete effects. We just went on about how bad it is is. So what?
It also doesnt help that to all these conferences, everyone flies... we didnt set the example either...
