Poster: Take part in #BeeFlyWatch. Dark-edged Bee-fly (Bombylius major) and Dotted Bee-fly (Bombylius discolor) in the UK. 1. Full info on the Dipterists Forum website (under “News and Events”) 2. Download our ID guide. 3. Go out on a warm and sunny day and look for fluffy flies, with a very long ‘nose’ (proboscis), hovering around flowers, or basking on the ground. 4. Take a photo of your bee-fly, and add it to iRecord with details of place, date and species. 5. Enjoy watching and recording more bee-flies! #BeeFlyWatch is run by the Soldierflies and Allies Recording Scheme, and Dipterists Forum. Earliest ever record for Dark-edged Bee-fly: 9 February (in 2022). Usually seen from early March to late May. Earliest ever record for Dotted Bee-fly: 15 March (in 2017). Usually seen from mid March to mid May.
