Inspired by the litter heroes who pick up in the #CountessofChesterCountryPark I've been doing what I describe as Postcode litter picks. If you have a sense of 'place' in where you live it's actually very therapeutic and quite good fun. Most interesting thing today .. a pair of underpants 🤔.
Last Friday my @tcvnational.bsky.social #GreenGym team in the #CountessofChesterCountryPark rebuilt a fallen down post & wire fence, planted hedging whips in a large gap and put in a diagonal stay to repair a strainer post. TCV volunteers are the 'heroes' who look after the site.

This will create a mosaic of different wetland habitats.

2) The water lost from the canal has caused the lower paths in the #CountessofChesterCountryPark to be flooded. The @friendscoccp & @thelandtrust_ are advising park visitors NOT to try and wade through .. it's deep!
That's the last of the gates on the main path through the #CountessofChesterCountryPark removed. Installed to deter fast cycling & motor bikes .. not good that they were falling apart after only 12 years! Despite signs, nobody shut them anyway 😒.
Now we're thinking what we could repurpose them as 🤔.
Tomorrow (Friday 13th June) at 11:00am is the official opening of the new Dragonfly sculpture by the old dipping platform. To allow for civic guests and others attending to be able to park the overflow area of the #CountessofChesterCountryPark car park will locked from 7:00pm this evening.
Great stuff .. look out for the Brown Hare & Mute Swan from Nicky's #CheshiresWonderfulWildlife collection .. currently being displayed in the #CountessofChesterCountryPark
Volunteer Week 2025
Had a cracking day working with some of the #TCVMerseyside #GreenGym volunteers in the #CountessofChesterCountryPark getting the site by the old dipping platform ready for the official unveiling of Kirk Russell's Dragonfly sculpture next Friday.
Join the @friendscoccp.bsky.social at the #CountessofChesterCountryPark a week on Friday to help them officially open the wonderful Dragonfly sculpture they commissioned from local artist Russell Kirk. This is the focal point of their 'Dipping Platform Reimagined' project.
Check out the new 'Art in the Park' addition in the #CountessofChesterCountryPark. This metal Dragonfly sculpture over the reed bed was commissioned by @friendscoccp.bsky.social from local artist Russell Kirk and is a male Common Darter.
Delamere Forest is expensive to get into. Why not try the #CountessofChesterCountryPark which is free .. just £1 for the car park.

Huge thanks to Pete Simcoe of Simcoemedia for this action photo of me and Mike from @friendscoccp.bsky.social installing a new post on one of the #CountessofChesterCountryPark trails. We had our #TCVMerseyside 'hats' on for this job though .. OK, hi-vis!
Before and after.
Way-marker post replaced in the #CountessofChesterCountryPark today. Joint #FriendsCoCCP & #TCVMerseyside activity. It's on the 2 mile Silva's Trail and the #parkrun A course route.
We resorted to copying techniques used by the Egyptians and Neolithic people when moving these heavy pieces of timber away from the old dipping platform in the #CountessofChesterCountryPark
It's been so uplifting on such a beautiful, warm, sunny day, just after the #springequinox in the #CountessofChesterCountryPark, to see the Blackthorn hedges & bushes bursting into flower.

The #friendscoccp thoroughly enjoyed representing the #CountessofChesterCountryPark at the European Conservation Educators conference at Chester Zoo today. We had delegates from Estonia, Poland, Sweden, United Emirates, United Kingdom, India, Indonesia & Germany chatting to us at our stand.
