Super Mario adults are very funny.

"What do you mean the sequel to the first movie which was nothing but shallow references and bad needle drops is awful?!"

What were you people expecting?

Daredevil: Born Again S2 - 10 mins in and I had to turn it off.

Seeing such a rich series get turned into greyslop Disney Plus content with questionable acting hurts.

Marvel hope I’ll be more interested in Jessica Jones returning than writing a gripping action drama & shooting it like it matters.

Honestly, let the nostalgia farm blockbuster/streaming model eat itself. The industry deserves its inevitable implosion.

Not helped in any way by my watching the trailer for Dune Part Three (which looks immaculately photographed with rich texture and purposeful lensing) immediately after. Man, those movies slap.

The trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day makes the story look like something of a ‘throw shit at the wall to see what sticks’ with its gazillion plot threads but if done well, could resemble a tight comic book miniseries nicely. I like the more serious tone even visually it kinda looks like sludge.

How am I only just now discovering not only did they remake 12 Angry Men in 1997, it was directed by William Freakin’ Friedkin?

The Chalamet backlash over saying he doesn’t like ballet & opera is obscene. Such a nothing-burger controversy that a shit-hot young actor has an indifference to an art form.

The fact it’s apparently lessened his chances of winning an Oscar is honestly hilarious.

No wonder actors hate the internet

He did the same with his resentment that Jackman hung up the claws just as the Deadpool franchise was kicking off. Instead of accepting that, LOGAN’s been robbed of its emotional and metatextual impact.

#Letterboxd First time watches. Yes, I know what you’re gonna say. Crazy it took this long, but it’s done now.

I’ve finally seen White Chicks.

There’s something about the messier artistic ambition on display here that just has my heart over the phenominal original. Despite all the cracks one can pick apart, I will never criticise the scrappy energy of trying virtually everything to push the boundaries of the medium. Art.

Rewatched Across The Spider-Verse & convinced at this rate that what many describe as ‘sensory overload’ is actually an issue with the sound mix. I’m aware in cinemas it had issues that later got fixed but as stands, a lot of fast-quipping dialogue goes missed and can often lead to disorientation. 📽️

This was the sort of realisation I had when I realised culture war politics is either side grifting constantly off one another and no one actually going outside and living in the real world.

Cool but please do not let franchise maintenance override the artistic and narrative integrity of Spider-Verse 3, I’m begging you.

Love the ambiguity in Killers of The Flower Moon of whether Earnest is aware that the medicine he's administering to Mollie is poisonous. A simple weasel of such weak conviction or self-assuredness, he likely wouldn’t have questioned it in the moment even if the thought did occur to him.

Yeardley Smith’s line reading of ‘God help me, I want him back’ had genuine weight behind it. She hasn’t lost a step.

Nice to know after all these years, Rich STILL refuses to engage with Spider-Man as anything other than an instantly gratifying ode to superficial comic accuracy. It’s an incredible coming-of-age romance full of stylistic Raimi whimsy that’s heartbreakingly earnest in its human drama but whatever…

Father-in-law asked why everyone was so mad at Billie Eilish but had somehow never heard of ICE. Which points to the exact problem. Our capitalist news would sooner inform him of outrage within ‘the culture wars’ than actual information on the things and incidents he would be rightly outraged over.

Highest 2 Lowest is about a wealthy media mogul who briefly considers NOT paying a ransom to save a teenager’s life, who in the second half bizarrely becomes the hero of the story.

But I can’t pretend I didn’t vibe with it a little. A wonderfully 90s score with Denzel & Wright crushing it as usual.

Always trust a movie 📽️ in such denial about its titular estate that it never bothered to check whether you’re allowed to fictitiously depict (negatively, no doubt) victims of child sexual assault.
