No, not, you don't want to be bothering with that , says he already checking out Alder π
Lots of Mottled Umber catterpillars on a local Elm hedge today. Nothing in the moth trap last night so had to get my moth fix looking for catterpillars instead π #teammoth
My work here is done πππ
Well done you ππππ you're becoming an addict π
Yes , that's it, Healthy , friendly competition, all in the best interest of furthering moth conservation of course, yes definitely, just that. But 89 is in the lead.... just saying, all friendly like π
Don't know what you mean! π€ͺ π
Wow, that's quite something π
A Wogan awaited me in the trap this morning, so been searching for catterpillars to make up for it. Coleophora on wild plum, one of the spinella trio ( its a rear and then gen det to find out which!). Then Teleiodes vulella in a leaf fold on Hawthorn.
Hey but its still one more closer ππ
We need to persuade him to produce more volumes π
Good find π but yeah keep it quiet from SO89 folks, they might send you the pic of the one they found too πππ
My excuse is in our plantation the trees are 60 ft + tall so could only look at the fallen branches! π
You'll be off looking at Stitchwort next then ππ
Nice one π. Yeah right, easy ......! Well yes when you look at the right tree ππ
Oh all right then completely convinced π well I am now π

Checking out a tiny lane with lots of greater stitchwort on the verges. Found a few plants with feeding signs and one case. Fairly sure with the angle its Southern Stitchwort case bearer, Coleophora solitarella. About a mile from the other staffs records. #teammoth
I've been looking for Coleophora laricella for over a year now in a mature Larch plantation at baggeridge, no joy. Turns out of you stand on the back of a landrover to look at the scrappy little larch on the car park you can find one in a matter of seconds π #teammoth
Meanwhile at the baggeridge mv, very much two ends of the spectrum on the Frosted Green front ! Frosted Green was a new park record in 2025 so nice to see them back π #teammoth
Cheers Steve, wasn't on my radar at all. Was pretty chuffed with the one at the park but in the garden!!!!
Dotted Chestnut ππππ NFG after one at baggeridge in Feb which was my first.
Things are picking up π Amongst the Quakers there were 2 Lunar Marbled Browns a lovely fresh Purple Thorn several pus inc first Oak tree pug of the year and another Streamer π #teammoth
Hope things turn out ok. And you get more compensatory nfgs. We need you on here to put the staffs rivalry into perspective and keep us jealous π take care
Yep, brilliant morning read, do love a parasite π
Cheers Les π
Thank you, got to keep that buffer as you keep getting closer π. Missed the Burton record π
Happy bunny! Just found Coleophora albitarsella at baggeridge. Case on underside of Ground I've. Could see the pale feeding window so.looked underneath, bingo π looks like 1 other record in staffs, Dovedale 1950! #teammoth @vc39moths.bsky.social
Went looking at Blackthorn for something a bit more stripey, (Argyresthia albisria , Dark Blackthorn tip moth). Not really sure what I actually found! ObsID reckons Winter moth or Herald. Think Winter moth more likely if not something else entirely! #teammoth
Yeah, its not much more than a fat grub π. Have to say that Lapwings displaying is right up there for birding spectacle, love em π
