Really nice to meet @swaystevek.bsky.social for a pint last night and a trip round the NF looking for Sloe Carpet with @birdertom.bsky.social The cold clear skies did for us, but there’s other sites to see this week. I’m amazed how little blackthorn is present in the centre of the NF #teammoth
A Great Prominent moth sitting on the usual Devon moth photography stone
A Brindled Beauty moth sitting on a plinth near the moth trap.
A typically coy and uncooperative Muslin Moth on a background of stone.
Almost didn't trap last night in view of the forecast, but am in Devon so ran a token actinic. Glad I did, as 15:6 with 3 NFY in Great Prominent, Brindled Beauty (x6) and Muslin Moth. Clearly a fur coat was needed given the frost. Hopefully bodes well for the next few nights... #TeamMoth
Side view of a large moth hanging from a dry stem. The moth is green with brown markings on the sage and across the middle of the forewings. She has long green scales resembling hair at the back of the head
Aenetus djernaesae - Marie’s Splendid Ghost Moth
Spotted this stunning female Ghost Moth (Hepialidae) in a coastal area around 150km north of Perth last night. This species appears to be endemic to Western Australia.

Just taken dogs for a walk, at least half a dozen Moths fluttering around, that's made my decision easier. #teammoth 😁
04/04/26. 12/5 of the usual 'beige' from garden that looked like a tornado had struck! 5 Early Oak Gall Moth (Pammene giganteana) to FUN lure during the afternoon long before it hit. #teammoth #norfolkmoths
I thought that this early Footman sp - Eilema sp would have to be Eilema caniola! - the common species in this part of Andalucia? But with a closer look I could see the wings were too dark grey and the orange colour was too orange and extended behind the head and along the costa? - Surely this was Scarce Footman - Eilema complana? (But it isn't supposed to be anywhere near this SW corner of Spain according to the maps I have access to?) Can someone please confirm my ID? - i have never got on well with Footmen! - moth-trapping at Bolonia, near Tarifa, Cadiz Province, Andalucia, Spain on the 31st of March 2026.
Another new for the year was this very fresh looking Eupithecia scopariata - moth-trapping at Bolonia, near Tarifa, Cadiz Province, Andalucia, Spain on the 31st of March 2026.
And how is this for a moonlight view with the full moon and the streetlights of Bolonia, Tarifa and TangierMed Port beyond the great sand dune of Bolonia! - as seen from my traps - moth-trapping at Bolonia, near Tarifa, Cadiz Province, Andalucia, Spain on the 31st of March 2026.
Part 2 - Moth trapping; Bolonia, Tarifa, Cadiz Province, Andalucia, Spain on the 31st of March 2026 - Highlights included; Scarce Footman - Eilema complana & Eupithecia scopariata. - see alt button for photos #teammoth #spanishmoths www.facebook.com/permalink.ph...
Sharp-winged Drill moth
Hi. I'm Sharp-winged Drill moth. I don't know why they call me that, I sound like a monster. I prefer Common Daisy Moth. I like daisies. Oh and tansies! I'm not from around here. Do you know any nice flower beds? Want to show me around?

Cydia strigulatana in one of its many colour forms of this very variable moth! - moth-trapping at Bolonia, near Tarifa, Cadiz Province, Andalucia, Spain on the 31st of March 2026.
Another good looking moth was also new for the year - Cleonymia diffluens - moth-trapping at Bolonia, near Tarifa, Cadiz Province, Andalucia, Spain on the 31st of March 2026.
These are the wonderful views that i mentioned - here looking SE past the village of Bolonia to Tarifa in the distance and the North African coast dominated by Jebel Musa! - moth-trapping at Bolonia, near Tarifa, Cadiz Province, Andalucia, Spain on the 31st of March 2026.

Ha ha..I put mine out there when I made it and apart from the MV, it's the best UV I've used .. and I've lots if spare lamps, so roll on summer 😄 #teammoth #uvlamps
Barred Tooth-striped moth, a species that likes Wild Privet, which was in abundance at the PNR
Gracillaria syringella, a moth species that also likes Wild Privet
Powdered Quaker on the grass. Netted as it passed
Male Emperor moth, which came in to the lure after about 5 minutes. I guess I've just been trying to find it in places where it isn't.
An afternoon/evening at Mill Hill LNR with @alandcs.bsky.social was disappointing for moths, with just 7:6. That said, we scored the target Barred Tooth-striped as we packed up 😅. Also Gracillaria syringella and Powdered Quaker NFY, while finally got proof that the Emperor lure works! #TeamMoth

Pine Beauty
Brindled Beauty
An utterly ridiculous decision to run last night yielded 4 hardy moths. Pine Beauty (first garden record this year), Brindled Beauty, Hebrew Character and Emmelina monodactyla. #TeamMoth
At least the trap was in one piece this morning 🙂

Early Grey
Early Grey
A couple of Early Greys were the highlights of 6/4 in the #teammoth trap this morning. Only my 2nd & 3rd records.
A couple of pairs of Greylags and a Redwing over, singing Cetti’s Warbler and calling Pheasant were the avian highlights.
Where is Spring?
