Lunar Marbled Brown moth resting in an egg box
Lunar Marbled Brown and Nut-tree Tussuck moths on an upright oak log
15 of 7 overnight across both Actinic and Blacklight traps. Frosted Green NFY and a crisp Lunar Marbled Brown added interest amongst the usual shades of brown #teammoth #mothsmatter #GardenWildlife VC11 SE Hants
Diamond-back Moth Plutella xylostella - N. Antrim Apr26 Double figures of these moths this week. These tiny insects can migrate huge distances on the wind. #moths #mothsmatter #teammoth @ulsterwildlife.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social @europebutterfly.bsky.social @migrantmothuk.bsky.social
Swallow Prominent (Pheosia tremula).
Dark Sword-grass (Agrotis ipsilon)
Lydd on Sea VC15, a cool breezy night by the sea, gave 9 of 5sp.
Was pleased to find the first Swallow Prominent of the year on the wall by the trap , plus the first Dark Sword-grass of the year in the trap, and the first Xylostella in the trap as well
(No photo though).

Brindled Beauty (Lycia hirtaria). 1 of 14 in and around the trap this morning.
An outrageous (well, for me & a 20w actinic) 14 Brindled Beauty in and around the trap this morning. Also, a male St Mark's Fly (Bibio marci) was new to the 'intruders' list.

Came across this small moth recently at Lydden Spout near Dover .I think that it could be Eriopsela Quadrata the Four Spot Belle ,which I believe is a Goldenrod feeder......Happy to be corrected ! #teammoth #mothsmatter #ukmoths
The best marked Oak Nycteoline I've had.

Early Thorn on barbed wire
Early Thorn, far more colour variation from the other one pictured
Oak-tree Pug……. I think 🤔
Brindled Pug
Just 16/8 last night 8-9th April. But happy to report 3 NFG. 2 very different Early Thorn, Brindled Pug x2, Oak-tree Pug (I think). 🥳 #DERBYSHIRE VC57.
Other overnight garden visitors included Beautiful & Twenty Plume, C & S Quaker 2+1, Early Grey x4, Brindled Beauty x2. #TeamMoth #MothsMatter
Rush Veneer Nomophila noctuella N. Antrim April 2026. The recent southerly winds have resulted in an influx of migrant moths into Ireland including this one #moths #mothsmatter #teammoth @ulsterwildlife.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social @europebutterfly.bsky.social @migrantmothuk.bsky.social
32 species in the moth trap this morning, highlights included 4 scarce prominent, water carpet, 2 pine beauty and a nice fresh M. nitidalis. #teammoth #mothsmatter
Our team took advantage of the milder temperatures last night, with trapping sessions at Jubilee Pasture in Bugthorpe and Hagg Wood in Dunnington.
These under-recorded sites yielded a promising variety including these two Beauties #mothsmatter
Blossom Underwing
I have not got the ‘moth plank’ out for ages…
So my first Blossom Underwing which was new for the year was justified.
I usually just about scrape one every other year in the Littlestone garden (SE Kent)

Up to 4 male Emperor moth to a lure at The superb Oare Marshes reserve this morning ,they were very reluctant to settle with the lure in a low bush ,but came to the lure more consistantly when it was laid on the path. #mothsmatter #ukmoths
Swallow Prominent (Pheosia tremula)
Early Grey (Xylocampa areola)
Early Grey (Xylocampa areola)
Chestnut (Conistra vaccinii)
Other highlights overnight in #Norwich were Swallow Prominent (Pheosia tremula) & Early Grey (Xylocampa areola) - both "new for year". Also this worn Chestnut (Conistra vaccinii) is the first of this species I have a pic for in '26! #norfolkmoths #mothsmatter #teammoth #moths #pollinators #bugsky
A really nice moth trap catch overnight in #Norwich. The highlight for me was this beautiful Lunar Marbled Brown (Drymonia ruficornis). Just the sixth garden record (one in '20, four in '24).

Warm overnight but still a significant moon. 11/26. Highlights are these brindled beauties (new for me) and this dk/grey dagger which is very early?

30/12 species recorded last night 8/4/26 at home in St Helens, the best being this Streamer, only the 3rd one I've had at home and the 6th one for our area. #Mothsmatter #StHelensBirding

Micropterix calthella. This very common micro is a spring favourite.

Oak-tree Pug (Eupithecia dodoneata) was another "new for year" species in my #Norwich moth trap this morning. The run of Frosted Green (Polyploca ridens) continues, a lovely fresh but dark individual showing variation with its counterpart. #teammoth #norfolkmoths #mothsmatter #bugsky
Angle Shades (Phlogophora meticulosa) NFY in my #Norwich moth trap this morning. A common but mesmerisingly beautiful species. Always a welcome visitor. #norfolkmoths #moths #mothsmatter #teammoth #bugsky #pollinators
Acleris literana (Lichen Tortrix)
Acleris literana (Lichen Tortrix)
Acleris literana (Lichen Tortrix)
Brindled Pug (upithecia abbreviata). Many people are dismissive or down on pugs. They can be tricky to id, especially when worn. But I rather like them. Perhaps that's the birder in me, always trying to pick out the "wheat from the chaff". This individual is very fresh with intricate patterning & colours, a very easy id and a most welcome visitor. I think I enjoyed it more than the more scare A.literana.
Chuffed to find Acleris literana (Lichen Tortrix) on the moth trap this am, the 2nd garden record. A worn, shabby individual, but you can see why it has it's colloquial name. Brindled Pug (upithecia abbreviata) also "new for year" - my thoughts in ALT. #teammoth #mothsmatter #bugsky #norfolkmoths
19/7 moths recorded last night 6/4/26 at home in St Helens, the best being another Grey Shoulder-knot, but this Early Tooth-striped was a new for the year. #Mothsmatter #StHelensBirding
