In a cluster of last year's dead grass and stems is a small fuzzy bee with black antennae and a typical black and yellowish striped abdomen.
Behold the Unequal Cellophane Bee! It's one of the first bees to fly around here in the spring - a pollinator of Red Maples. Cellophane bees are named for the females' ability to mix saliva with butt secretions to make something akin to saran wrap to waterproof their nest cells. #bees #pollinators
