From a field path on dried up boulder clay near Carlton in east Cambridgeshire lots of high speed #bees diving down holes.
Maybe Halictus rubicundus, Yellow-legged Furrow Bee? Nightmare to photograph. Anyone want lots of insect-free dried up clay photos?! π

Are you a keen gardener?
New #OpenAccess work in #RESInsectConsDiv finds that if you want to provide #pollinator nesting habitat, you should cut dead perennial stems in their first winter.

A solitary bee sits next to its overwinter nest as it tries to warm up in the early morning sun.
My anger right now is righteous. So instead, have some bees.

Pleased & surprised to spot this female Buffish Mining Bee (Andrena nigroaenea) on my urban dog walk just now. I think this is my first #Norwich record. Spotted whilst admiring Hairy-footed Flower Bees on a large area of Red Dead Nettle that has not been mown down! #bees #bugsky #solitarybees

Tawny Mining Bee (Andrena fulva).
There are plenty of Tawny Mining #Bees in my garden right now. This male one was resting on a primula flower when I saw it, and it allowed me to take a few pictures.

A close up photo of two red mason bees mating, whilst perched on a blue muscari flower head. The photo is portrait in orientation, with the muscari flowers on the lef side of the frame. The flower head is made up of what look like littlel blue barrels, hanging downwards, with the petals slightly paler at the liip. The bees are facing up, and are viewed side on. The male is clasping the back of the female, and has an orange/red fluffy body with darker stripes. He has pale orange hairs on his face, and antennae which are noticeably longer that the femails. Although the female is larger in size all that can really be seen of her is her black head and eyes.
I'm slowly starting to feel better after the removal of my disagreeable appendix. Managed 10mins in the garden, to appreciate the βοΈ. Not up to managing the camera, but used my phone to snap these two Red Mason #solitarybees having a quickie. #invertebrates #wildlifefrommywindow
I made these cob bricks to a @johnwalterswildife.bsky.social recipe 2-3 years ago and only now have they been accepted by their intended recipient, a female Anthophora plumipes. #SolitaryBees @brigitstrawbridge.bsky.social @cathhodsman.bsky.social
