Took some pictures to share how much more fun colorful stickers make my #seeds storage boxes!

A large dragonfly with green and blue spots hangs from a twig in a hedge. It is hanging vertically.
Male Southern Hawker for #libellente. At Blakehill nature reserve in Wiltshire a few years ago. The site is a former WW2 airfield which has been converted back to meadow. #dragonfly #UKWildlife #invertebrates #blauweglazenmaker
I found out on threads people have pet snails o.o
(Like I had them in my aquarium, but these are non-aquatic and being held in hand, and large, and I'm like is it all AI, but I'll accept they can be real.)
So dear bsky, show me your pet snail. Thanks.

A large brown dragonfly with greenish yellow spots clings to a rather damp looking tree stump and pokes the ovipositor on the tip of her abdomen into it.
Southern Hawker for #libellente. Female laying eggs into a tree stump near, but not in, the water. This is characteristic behaviour of this species. #dragonfly #UKWildlife #invertebrates #blauweglazenmaker
Skalbagge, drygt centimetern lång. Den har rött huvud, röda och svarta täckvingar och svart rumpa. Med reservation för att jag inte är biolog.
Vem är det som har vaknat?

A brown dragonfly flying low over the surface of a pond with lots of blanket weed.
This photo from Lower Moor Farm in August 2023 is the only one I have of a Brown Hawker in flight. It shows how the brown veins in the wings create a golden shimmer around the #dragonfly. #UKWildlife #invertebrates #bruineglazenmaker
A large brown dragonfly sitting on a stick and dipping the tip of her abdomen into the water. Her wings have golden brown veins.
Brown Hawker for #libellente. A female laying eggs into an underwater stick at Thursley national nature reserve in August 2024. #dragonfly #UKWildlife #invertebrates #bruineglazenmaker
A dragonfly with large green and blue spots on its abdomen and green markings elsewhere flying above an out of focus pond.
A Southern Hawker male in flight at Ravensroost Meadows in Wiltshire a few years ago. Rather please with this photo - they fly fast and aren't easy to get in focus. #libellente #dragonfly #UKWildlife #invertebrates #blauweglazenmaker
There's a third species for today's #libellente but Green Hawker is rude enough not to live in the UK or indeed ever to visit as a vagrant, so I'm going to have to ignore it due to never having seen one. #dragonfly #invertebrates
Today's second species for #libellente is the very distinctive Brown Hawker. The golden-brown tinge of the wings creates a golden blur around the insect while it's flying. These are very bulky hawkers as well as being very differently coloured to the others. #dragonfly #invertebrates
Day 29 of #libellente is another species with an increasingly-inaccurate name: Southern Hawker. It's spread to most of the country now thanks to climate change. A very colourful hawker with a tendency to come and investigate people who turn up in the area it's hunting in. #dragonfly #invertebrates
Photo of a dotted paropsine leaf beetle on a eucalyptus branch. It is a round pinkish and yellow beetle with white spots.

I saw a yellowjacket hanging out on the path today. Got a couple good closeup photos, so I drew it.

A photo of afuzzy orange moth from the front as it rests on a black metal lamp pole, it's image reflected in the shiny surface. The moth's head, legs, and thorax are covered in bright fuzzy orange scales. Its wings, darker orange have a single white spot each near the leading edge.

Spotted Darter has never been seen in the UK, but the very similar Common Darter and Ruddy Darter are both quite common. #libellente #dragonfly #invertebrates
Two species for today's #libellente and neither has ever been seen in the UK. In the case of Banded Darter, I think we're entitled to think it's unfair we don't get to see it. Although we do have Banded Demoiselle to make up for it. #dragonfly #invertebrates
Morning repost, hopefully adding to the #SciArt and #Invertebrates feeds...
A photograph of a large bumble bee on blackthorn flowers. The bee is round and fluffy, with a black head, orange stripe, black abdomen, a yellow stripe, more black and a whitish tip. It is nectarine on the white blossoms of the blackthorn bush. Bombus terrestris (buff-tailed bumble bee) on Prunus spinosa.
A photograph of a brimstone butterfly on some dead, brown leaves. This brightly coloured, greenish-yellow butterfly fluttered in front of me and then zoomed off down the lane. I chased it then lost it as it veered off into the bramble on the side. I looked for it but couldn’t see where it landed. Then I spotted a speck of neon green in the distance, amongst the dead leaves. Aha! I had the big lens so I was able to grab a shot of the sneaky guy. Not the greatest but definitely identifiable. Its green wings with a small brown speck is great for when it tries to hide in plain sight on a plant. Not so good amongst the dead leaves… Gonepteryx rhamni
A photograph of a peacock butterfly on blackthorn. This is a very brightly coloured butterfly, with reds and oranges and four ‘eyes’ of blue and white. It is contrasted beautifully against the white flowers and blurred background. Aglais io on Prunus spinosa.
A rubbish photograph of a thistle tortoise beetle. It is a small, oval beetle, of a bright green colour with a bit of brownish markings. It is sitting on a blade of grass. I have no idea how I spotted omit to be honest! Lovely wee thing. Cassida rubiginosa
For FlyDay, I have some invertebrates from the last week or so

A bright red dragonfly with red eyes, a brownish-red thorax and a wide, bright red abdomen, sits on a slightly battered wall which looks like concrete built to imitate marble. The wall is the edge of a fountain. Greenish water can be seen behind, out of focus.
Broad Scarlet #dragonfly for #libellente. This one was in a more expected place - the botanical gardens in Rome in September last year. It was completely ignoring people walking past, intent on defending the pond it had taken for its territory. #vuurlibel #invertebrates

Day 27 of #libellente is Broad Scarlet, Crocothemis erythrea, sometimes called Scarlet Darter although it isn't in the Darter genus. Dutch name #vuurlibel means Fire Dragonfly. Still very rare in the UK, but no longer the mega-rare vagrant it was until a few years ago. #dragonfly #invertebrates
The front of my arm showing the whalefall and above it are a bunch of clione hunting a sea butterfly
My elbow area showing giant isopods and a sea pig and hag fish
My right upper arm with s said attacking a whale, sea floor with giant isopods and jellyfish in the water
Today was tattoo day with @firestarter.bsky.social! We added a bunch of #invertebrates to the squid/whale battle and whalefall.
A wide aspect photo of a tan plume moth from the front. It's wings are held straight out to its sides and have feathery areas on the undersides along the middle. It's head is wide and flat, and the forward scales obscure its eyes in this shot. Its legs are very slender and carry the moth up and off the pale blue wood it is resting on.
This is not a strange concept for an Ornithopter from #Dune.

For many, #Spring is heralded by their first chiming Chiffchaff, or returning Swallow. For me, it's the emergence of these buzzing beauties. The Dark-edged Bee-flies are out again! #bugsky #invertebrates #insects
Caterpillars coming soon! 🤞
