Figure_1. An overview of the study area, sampling sites, and sampling technique within Eastern Canada. a) Geographic distribution of the 44 study sites organized into 7 blocks across Northern Quebec, from Mont-Laurier to LaSarre-Duparquet, covering approximately 750 km. The shaded polygons represent the geographic limits for the blocks (displayed for understanding and don't delineate the regional boundaries), with a legend illustrating the treatment types through specific icons, block delineations, and the primary transport highway for context. The map scale indicates distances corresponding to real-world measurements, maintaining an accuracy of approximately ±10 %. b) Depiction of a typical Lindgren funnel trap setup used in the study, showing 12 units equipped with a wet collection cup and lures, deployed between two conifers about 5 m apart at one of the study sites.

A photograph of a large bumble bee on blackthorn flowers. The bee is round and fluffy, with a black head, orange stripe, black abdomen, a yellow stripe, more black and a whitish tip. It is nectarine on the white blossoms of the blackthorn bush. Bombus terrestris (buff-tailed bumble bee) on Prunus spinosa.
A photograph of a brimstone butterfly on some dead, brown leaves. This brightly coloured, greenish-yellow butterfly fluttered in front of me and then zoomed off down the lane. I chased it then lost it as it veered off into the bramble on the side. I looked for it but couldn’t see where it landed. Then I spotted a speck of neon green in the distance, amongst the dead leaves. Aha! I had the big lens so I was able to grab a shot of the sneaky guy. Not the greatest but definitely identifiable. Its green wings with a small brown speck is great for when it tries to hide in plain sight on a plant. Not so good amongst the dead leaves… Gonepteryx rhamni
A photograph of a peacock butterfly on blackthorn. This is a very brightly coloured butterfly, with reds and oranges and four ‘eyes’ of blue and white. It is contrasted beautifully against the white flowers and blurred background. Aglais io on Prunus spinosa.
A rubbish photograph of a thistle tortoise beetle. It is a small, oval beetle, of a bright green colour with a bit of brownish markings. It is sitting on a blade of grass. I have no idea how I spotted omit to be honest! Lovely wee thing. Cassida rubiginosa

nestled into a rocky outcropping exactly where I discovered it, a rather large chunk of clear-but-very-slightly-blue-tinted glass, too thick to be from a car window, broken from its original source in a very liquid, "flowing" way rather than the sharp edges you would expect, refracting the image of the rocks behind it

A photo of five Whirligig Beetles (Gyrinus substriatus) swimming on the surface of some water. Their legs, beneath the surface, cannot be seen, but their very short antennae can be made out, and in the case of at least one of the Beetles, the upper parts of the eyes (each compound eye in this type of Beetle is divided into two, in order to see above and below the surface of the water at the same time. The bodies (most of what we can see are the wing-cases) are grey, but appear silvery where they reflect the sunlight.
For post #10 in this Brandon Marsh #NaturePhotography thread, I give you Whirligig Beetles! Around a couple of dozen of them, with their wing-cases reflecting the sun, were whizzing around on the surface of the water like miniature dodgem cars. #Invertebrates #Insects #Beetles #UKWildlife #ECK 🌿
