An 11-spot Ladybird tucked in a hollow bamboo cane. It has 11 black spots on its bright red wing cases, a black pronotum with white on the front corners and two white spots on its head.

A nice surprise in a Nottinghamshire garden - an 11-spot Ladybird! The only other one I’ve seen was on a Norfolk beach.

Quarter-profile (-ish) view of a rainbow scarab (Phanaeus difformis) against a black background. The elytra are metallic purplish, the pronotum is metallic greeenish, and the head and horn are black with subtle purplish tints. The back corners of the pronotum are produced into small dorsals extensions, giving it a decidedly three horned appearance. The lamellate antennal clubs are orangish-brown. It is a lovely beetle (as far as beetles go).

A rove beetle standing on a pale rock. It’s a slender, dark reddish brown beetle that looks like it has been assembled from a collection of geometric shapes.

I spotted this lovely little rove beetle on a rock in the Peak District. Tentatively keyed out to Othius, with Othius angustus suggested on a Facebook group.

A group of red ants on a horizontal rope. They are holding on to the abdomen of a large beetle that is many times bigger then an individual ant. The abdomen is dangling below the rope. The arts are holding on to the beetle abdomen using their jaws and moving it along the rope.
