Pupation will come soon for this little grub. The body has begun to flatten out and shorten. It is listless- moving only if disturbed. Just beneath the grub's skin, the pupa is already forming.

What can happen is a tiny larva can burrow inside a larger chunk of wood, and its difficult to monitor the animal's growth and health should it do so.

When it comes to housing, Rainbow Stag Beetles are easily pleased. Enough dirt to burrow, and some space to move around is all they ask for! In fact I'd discourage doing any fancy setups- they make a habit of rearranging their enclosure however they want.

I hear that purple x anything else mixes tend to produce beetles that look purple.
But I know this isn't always the case- I have two purple/green mix females that express mostly as green.
