Love the diptych of this gorgeous Pearl Crescent butterfly in our upper meadow during the golden hour.
I have been showing more diptychs today to show both sides of butterfly wings. I hope you enjoy them.

Pearl Crescent butterfly checking me out during my stroll in our upper meadow. She kept flying around and landing near me. Love the texture of the grass, clover and dandelion flower around her. π§‘π

Excited to share my first sighting this year of a gorgeous Red-spotted Purple butterfly. No doubt that she very recently emerged (eclosed) from her chrysalis. She was sunning her wings on wild Red Dead-nettle in our upper meadow. ππ§‘

Female Eastern Tailed-Blue butterfly on Dandelion in our middle meadow. Females are a little bigger than the very tiny males (3/4β wingspan vs. 1/2β). Also, they are less blue and more iridescent. π

The tiny guys are not to be outdone by the big guys.
A magnificent Eastern Tailed-Blue butterfly (Cupido comyntas) in our upper meadow; one of the smallest butterflies in the world. π

Speaking of female Eastern Tiger Swallowtails, a sister to the standard yellow one was sunning herself on the edge of our eastern woods today. This is the female Black form. Note the similar blue pattern to the yellow Tiger that I just posted. Bonus bee in the photo.

The butterflies are saying to heck with the cold. 85Β° Thursday, 34Β° this morning. But they are emerging majorly this cool day.
A gorgeous female Eastern Tiger Swallowtail sunning her wings in our upper meadow. Her blue is stunning. Males donβt have that much blue.

You never know what you might see exploringβ¦
Thrilled to see my first Red-banded Hairstreak butterflies this year. There were over a dozen of them swarming on the edge of our woods, flying rapidly around each other in a flirtatious way. Never seen this behavior. π§‘

Hopefully, youβre not tired of my evening photos of the tiny Eastern Tailed-Blue butterflies in our upper meadow. The grasses blowing in the background created a nice canvas.

Another Macro Lens shot of a beautiful Eastern Tailed-Blue butterfly in our upper meadow this evening. He is front lit vs. the prior posting being a backlit one. Makes for an interesting comparison.

I had to break out the Macro Lens this evening to attempt to get some stunning shots of tiny, tiny and quite beautiful Eastern Tailed-Blue butterflies perched in the grasses of our upper meadow. Picture your pinky nailβ¦thatβs the size of this butterfly.

Happy to see my first Snowberry Clearwing Hummingbird moth this year. This is two weeks earlier than I have ever seen one. It was enjoying wild Red Dead-nettle nectar in our upper meadow. π
