Anthela inornata

We are seeing quite a few of these lovely moths at the minute.

They are quite large, with a wingspan of 6-7cm, and can be seen in early autumn in Western Australia and South Australia

It's 13°C, so of course I've put the trap out! Not much about at the moment, just an A. heracliana and an ichneumon wasp, which I photographed as it moved up the wall. But the night is still young. 🤞

The second Acleris cristana of 2026 was, typically, very different from the other one (right hand pix). Tufted Tortrix really is an appropriate common English name 👌
Super micro this...

Pale Pinion was NFY this morning ~ we'd been hoping for own this week but the weather has been bobbins for mothing really ~ so this was a nice surprise today. Not a frequent moth here (average of 3 or 4 a year), bar 2022 when we had 8.

On the previous night in West Dorset we got (Water Carpet?) high on a wall, Pale Pinion and a nice fresh Brindled Beauty. Lovely to see good numbers of moths even with the cold nights.

Fellow Meal Moths. If you’re like me, cosmopolitan moths just trying to enjoy some milled grains in peace, then you must be tired of being shunned from the pantry. Join me in fighting this injustice by laying eggs where we please. Who’s in?

Brindled Beauty

A slight, very slight, improvement in the #teammoth trap last night. Best of the bunch was this Brindled Beauty. Only the 3rd I’ve trapped.

Hopefully tonight will see a further improvement…

Hi mothy mates! This fairweather moth-er is back in business. Happy morning puzzling over identification. Can't work this one out. I think it is a dark, and battered, Frosted Green. V furry thorax. Any ideas? #Teammoth #mothsmatter
