Spent some pleasurable time last night looking at Eugene Atget’s Paris photographs. I love that it was straightforward documentation (of older Parisian architecture) that, in the eyes of other artists/critics like Man Ray and Walter Benjamin, became appreciated as something more.

As for my son, he and some of his cohort at school are now fascinated with liminal spaces like Backrooms and sometimes discuss horror games like Bendy that lean on an atmosphere of dread in abandoned factories and suchlike. I still don't know how he learned about these. Make of that what you will.

Some of my bosses didn't like it, they thought we should all be downtown, but they couldn't argue with the productivity. They still can't. My work group was lucky.

For me, it was nice. I wasn't expected to sit in traffic twice a day, burning fuel. I had more time with the boy. Now he's seven and we're certainly much closer than we would have been. So yeah, I liked it.

If you're looking for an anecdote that supports your view, my son has just turned one when the pandemic hit. Daycares shut down, of course. For almost a year we walked for hours together outside down quiet streets past empty buildings.

I think most of this is true. There was no "Superdole" for a lot of people whose livelihoods were based in customer-facing jobs- waitstaff, hairstylists, etc. They had real trouble swinging rent and other bills, and took two or three jobs to replace the one. It took them a long time to rebuild.
