π§ Myth: If someone speaks clearly, their #braininjury is mild.
π‘ Fact: #Communication challenges arenβt always visible.
After #TBI, people may sound βnormalβ but still struggle with word finding, organising thoughts, and social communication.

Her #research explores #virtualreality in #rehabilitation to improve outcomes for people with #communication difficulties π¬
Meet Dr. Petra Avramovic, Lecturer at the #UniversityofSydney, specialising in #TBI ππ§
With experience across clinical and #research roles, she focuses on improving #communication outcomes for people with TBI and is passionate about training future health professionals in patient-centred care.
A recent study from Sweden (Neurology) shows #TBI has long-term impacts on employment. Following ~100,000 people with TBI, researchers found higher rates of work disability lasting up to five years.

π‘ Fact: TBI can affect both forming new memories and recalling past ones.
People may have trouble remembering conversations, learning new routines, or experience memory gaps β past or present. Memory after #braininjury is complex.

π§ π #BrainAwarenessWeek
We celebrate the complexity of the brain and the #research that helps us understand and heal it. This week is a reminder to support #BrainHealth and highlight the importance of research in transforming outcomes for people affected by brain injury and neurological conditions.
π§ Weβre passionate about helping people understand how the #brain works, and breaks are a powerful part of that story.
Hereβs what #science shows:
πΉ Breaks prevent mental fatigue
πΉ Movement increases cognitive performance
πΉ Switching environments sparks creativity
πΉ Microbreaks reduce stress
π₯ This video shows how the OSTRICH tool helps services identify #communication needs and embed them into everyday workflows β from contact centre calls to electronic medical records.
