Both the brains *and* the serotonin cardigans are currently on sale.
Just saying.

“Pancreatic cancer mRNA vaccine shows lasting results in an early trial. Scientists caution that more research is needed, but nearly all of the patients who responded to the personalized vaccine are still alive six years later.”
This is why we should fund science. 🧪

THREAD: The IEA global energy review 2026
* CO2 record high, but growth nearly ground to halt
* Clean energy shaved 3bn tonnes off CO2
* Fossil-fuel power pushed into reverse

One of our open access pubs has been deemed non-compliant by NIH due to lack of PMCID.😬
It was supposed to be submitted automatically to PMC by the journal.
The editors have been great but are out-of-office.
Can I just submit the .pdf to NIHMS? (as a "free, public server")
Yeah, I almost don't consider my days in the office "work days" - they're at least half as productive as work-from-home days.
I know human interactions matter, but it's hard not to mourn the lost productivity time.
"may" - it already has.
A field that depends on >decade of training and multiyear projects cannot function when funding - including committed funding - is completely unstable and unpredictable.
U.S. science is being devastated. It will take decades to recover.

‘We need to think about what happens when they’re gone – to talk about the kind of reconstruction the US will face for the first time since the civil war.’
Great, though horrifying, piece by @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social in the Guardian today.

This is true for NSF also
I wrote about why every lab should have AI use guidelines, and how to do it.

2) Being apolitical IS political. Staying out of politics doesn’t keep you “above the fray” but instead endorses the status quo. (Which right now, is bad for both science and democracy.)
3) Politics isn’t dirty. It is simply the process by which we make decisions about running the country. If we tell scientists, doctors, teachers, etc to stay out of politics and not get their hands “dirty,” who is left to run the country? And will we like the decisions they make?
Academic friends,
It's beyond heartbreaking to watch what's unfolding in Iran & the region.
A few of us drafted an open letter calling for protection of civilians & of educational, research, medical & cultural institutions.

One of my favourite things about being a scientist is the ability to ask questions, and the comfort of knowing I don't have all of the answers. 1/4 🧑🔬⚛️🧠🩻✨🔭🧲🧪
Trump is openly threatening genocide.
We need the 25th now.
Absolutely heartbreaking. So many mathematicians I know studied there, men AND women.
Maryam Mirzakhani studied there.
If this isn't enough to cancel/relocate from the US the International Congress of Mathematicians #ICM2026, nothing will be.
There are a lot of layers to this and I'm not sure how to interpret them. Has anyone heard anything more?

BREAKING: In response to huge cuts in Trump's budget request, NSF is shuttering its SBE directorate. Staff will be transferred to other parts of the agency and "grants that align with Administration priorities" will be maintained.

If you can't, please consider NOT BUYING anything that day.

I love conferences too. Maybe it is a field difference? I'm in neuroscience - the field is fast moving and our talks and posters tend to be pretty interesting.
NSF Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences - current year is the flat red line.
... because why would we need anyone to learn about the economy when we're winning so bigly? 🙄

🧠🧬🧪📈🔬🧫 Science friends:
If you have *any* ability to accept student researchers in your lab this summer, please do. 🙏
Opportunities are desperately sparse. I just received 173 applications for an unpaid summer internship.
I'm worried we're going to lose a generation of young scientists. 💔
My team has systematically tracked every big team science initiative throughout the history of science.
This is a truly momentous and historical achievement. Congrats to the many researchers who worked together to pull it off.
