A rare ‘ginger’ wedge-tailed shearwater nestling for #SuperSeabirdSunday. Discovered during the 66th productivity survey for shearwaters on Buranguba (Montague Island) off NSW. Seas blown up by 70 knot winds the next day will see us twiddling our thumbs for a few more days before homeward bound.

Only 53% of the total area of KBAs is covered by protected and conserved areas, revealing significant gaps in safeguarding critical habitats. More work is needed to conserve comprehensive networks of sites that support species throughout their migratory cycles.
