#SuperSeabirdSunday David, Hopefully, it will not be too long before the Roseate Terns are back on the Northumberland coast. @steelyseabirder.bsky.social
The warmth this week has bought on a wave of nest building at some of the Solent gull colony sites, with others following in the next few weeks. Black-headed Gulls at West Hayling are weaving seaweed & spartina to snuggle in. #SuperSeabirdSunday

#superseabirdsunday this odd couple hung out together all winter a couple of years back. Heron and cormorant. Catching fish by day, and, I like to think, fighting crime at night.

One of a pair of common scoter at Wiseman's bridge today. A bit distant for any quality shots but great to see and my second life ✅ in this area with the red throated divers last week.

A BTO ringing record for an Arctic Tern ringed as a nestling in the Farne Islands, Northumberland, England on 19 June 1963 and controlled on Coquet Island, Northumberland, England on 13 July 1991
Remembering the time I controlled an Arctic Tern that was older than me and that had been back and forth to the Antarctic 28 times by the time I held it briefly in my hands. #SuperSeabirdSunday

Photo of an Atlantic Puffin (Fratercula arctica) standing in some low-growing, green vegetation, facing us, with wings held open. The bird's face, chest, belly, and part of the underside of each wing, is white (apart from a brownish, muddy patch on the belly); the top of the head, the neck, and the rest of the wings are black. The short legs and webbed feet are orange. The beak, which is tall and narrow, is red near the tip and blue-grey neat the base. The chest is broad, the body short, and the wings look small and narrow. Amongst the vegetation are a few small, white flowers, possibly Sea Campion.
“It’s #SuperSeabirdSunday!”
One of Skomer Island’s Puffins displaying their excitement over this weekly event. Also displaying wings which seem far too small to carry the bird into the air, and a belly in need of a wash after a visit to a nesting burrow... #Birds #BirdPhotography #UKWildlife #EKC 🌿
