Special interests, like war profiteers and Big Pharma, will always back the politicians who they know will give them a return on their investment.

That’s why my opponent takes money from AIPAC, ICE contractors, and the utility companies that are driving up our costs here in St. Louis.

Safety advocates protest Mayor’s move to remove downtown bumpouts; Driver seen hitting protestor blocking the street After Mayor Cara Spencer removed several traffic calming measures downtown last month, pedestrian safety groups are fed up and took to the streets Friday night.

The protest last night had a great turnout and got amazing press. Quite illustrative that someone was hit by a car at the protest, fortunately that person was physically fine.

(even more) cool websites to surf the web and stop doomscrolling (: YouTube video by Ikoxun's Corner

This creator is doing a charming series showing off interesting websites that you otherwise won't come across in the hyper-ad-optimized internet landscape we all live in. I remember some of these from the "good old days" of the internet. Very fun anti-doomscrolling.

Driver entitlement trumps public safety in St. Louis - NextSTL Curb bumpouts at Broadway and Market downtown installed last year were removed at lightning speed, after complains from drivers after a concert and from the Hilton Hotel. Mayor Spencer ordered them…

Road safety features were removed quickly in downtown without notice, without published plans, without public comment.

Keep this in mind next time they tell us that safety changes at deadly intersections require studies and months of community engagement.

St. Louis removes road safety measure so drivers can go FASTER St. Louis got rid of concrete bumpouts on busy city thoroughfares that were supposed to cut down on pedestrian deaths. The mayor said they were gotten rid of to lessen traffic jams.

We’ve gone international! And props to the UK tabloid to be the only one talking pedestrian injuries and deaths. I know every interview we mentioned it but editorial control means not everyone is interested in prioritizing that part of the story.

I got mad enough about the removal of St. Louis’s bump outs that I spoke to @stlmag.bsky.social about it. I am deeply concerned that the loss of bump outs could turn into a loss of life. Will Mayor Spencer “own this” then?

It's strange how installing the smallest bit of micromobility/pedestrian infrastructure requires weeks, months, years of consultations and debate and careful weighing up of how many lives are worth the cost of minor inconvenience to drivers but when it comes to taking it away, fuck your bumpouts.

On here (in addition to mastodon) today because my disgust at municipal government hypocrisy has temporarily overtaken my disgust at corporate owned social platforms and I wanted to express it to as many people as will listen.

An aside, but I think this is why I've been really into the idea of Library Socialism. A library is an existing model for communal ownership and stewardship of resources. If you start there and frame it as simply expanding that model to as many things as possible, it's so much more concrete.

Traffic-calming bumpouts removed in downtown St. Louis The City of St. Louis has removed multiple traffic-calming bumpouts from downtown streets in recent days, raising safety concerns over the loss of structures meant to slow drivers and protect pedes…

It took St. Louis City 5 weeks to *remove* 4 bump outs because maybe they contributed to a really bad night of traffic congestion. It takes months and years of public engagement and studies to make safety improvements, but we can destroy them immediately when we want?
